It would help if you told us what kind of ticket you're trying to book, and on which website.

And search for existing threads - there are already dozens about using international credit cards.

Where does it say that they don't accept international credit cards? I've booked over 20 tickets in the past month using my UK Visa and Mastercard.

You have to use the right payment portal. See the posts by steven_ber , etc..

Railways do not have any problems with international credit cards..

Its just that the site is not very user friendly and its usual for it to throw tantrums for long time..just keep trying through different gateways and thou shall succeed.

Yes indeed.

I've edited the thread title to be more obvious that this is about credit cards, not visas. Maybe I should include 'rail' too.

Had lots of sympathy for you recently when I came to book a domestic flight! I have an Indian Debit card and a British credit card. Expected to be able to use the former (I would be able to on the railways site. Oh no....

Anyway ...

Which Browser are you using?

I used to run into the same problem all the time using Mozilla Firefox browser. On a "chance" (IRCTC are useless at customer support!) I tried Internet Explorer and have since had no problems. So when I book Indian Rail tickets on-line (frequently), I have to switch to Microsoft Internet Explorer but there's no more "communication problems"!

I've had "communication problems" with both IE and Mozilla.

pantelis, the only thing you can do is just keep trying. with the last ticket I booked just last week, I tried for about 2-1/2 days with about a dozen attempts and it finally worked with my American Express card. The week before, it did not take my Am Ex card; the second time I tried it, it did.

I think the communication problem is not between your browser and the server, it is between the site server and the ticketing system
