Hello Everyone,

I've just checked some train schedules on http://www.indianrail.gov.in.

I want to make some reservations for mid-september-october.
So I filled in (on section "trains between stations") the query correctly (date: september october, quota: foreign tourist quota, check the train that I want to take,...)

And then I check the availability...:
all the trains that I want to take during my journey are NOT available (even the trains in october!) anymore.

Is that normal? Does that mean that all trains in that period (sept-oct) are fully booked? And that I can't make any reservation anymore? Suggestions? Substitute possibilities?
What can I do?

Thanks in advance!

Christophe.

Please give some examples of the trains and dates you are trying to book.

One of train experts should be able to give better information then.

Have you tried the general quota? The tourist quota may not be available online.

If you know someone here personally him/her can get the tickets made for you through the agents by just paying a few extra bucks.

Well I tried a train or two from your list here and there seems to be availability.

One hint: instead of Cochin try Ernakulam Junction (ERN)

Hi christopher,

Just tried to check availability of seats for the dates and locations mentioned here.

was able to get availbility for cochin - coimbatore sector for the date mentioned. Seats are available both in 3A & second class for train names Kerala Espress & Cape mumbai express.
The dep for both trains is in the afternoon arriving evening.

coimbatore - Mettupalayam - nillagiri express - seats availble on your travel date

For mysore banglore - shatabdi tickets are available also other trains

Banglore - hospet - overnight train - Hampi express seats are availbel on travel date.

For vasco - mumbai try tickets from madgaon to mumbai as Vasco is not on the Goa mumbai route. Again tickets are available.

All of the above is from general quota. PLease make sure that when you check availability the date of travel is correct.

Best of luck & enjoy
Mani

hoi Christophe

haha, have the same problem here - also going to India end Sept/Oct - although ive been REALLY lucky with some trains connections - e.g. booked the VERY LAST seats/berths available - for 3 different trains already... it's annoying (and no, i didnt believe my Indian friends who claimed it would b like that!) - haha, its so different from what we r used 2 i guess (i live in Holland, its the same story as in Belgium - getting tickets at the very last minute before jumping on and the trains r still empty )

anyway... i have booked ALL the tickets i wanted in the end - not every time for the TIME/class i wanted, but at least we wont get stuck anywhere

my suggestion: its easier to check the availability (AND DIRECTLY BOOK!!!) on http://www.irctc.co.in - although the site works REALLY SLOW and the connection breaks (ANNOYING) - at some occasions i had to fill in all the booking details 20 times before i managed to book (!), BUT: u can c EXACTLY how many seats r left for which classes on every train - and YES, there r places left on the trains u asked 4

e.g.i checked AC2 (airconditioned 2-tier berths)

21/09/2006: COCHIN - CHTS to COIMBATORE - CBE
1082 CAPE MUMBAI EXP - 12:50 17:25
1 21- Sep- 2006 AVAILABLE- 0007

- and theres like 7 trains between these stations on that day, seats available on most of them

good luck - and if u need more help throw me a line!
doei

I think that site is really dreadful quite a lot of the time.

It needs a good shake up

It may be partly a problem with India's connection to the world-wide internet. I often experience a outwards bottle neck, or even complete failure, in network communications outside India.

Thumbs up Online Booking Railway Tickets For India

I never tried that website because if its hanky panky behaviour.

I always used:http://www.irctc.co.in/ and this is good one-payment options are many and all you need is print out and carrying same ID which you have mentioned.

In your case-this could be PASSPORT or DRIVING LICENSE NO:

I am sure you will get through-and if not then you have to have act as soon as possible..beacuse you never knows when availabilities evaporates in INDIA.
