Help!! New Delhi train station?
Trying to book train tickets online for Jaipur to New Delhi but it says:
"The "To" Station you have selected does not exist on the route of the Train or this station has been deleted. Kindly select your "To" station from the Train Route shown below" The only Delhi choices are: DELHI CANTT(DEC), and DELHI(DLI) Which is closest to New Delhi, where my hotel is? |

How hard will it be to find our train at the New Delhi Station? Is there a "big board" that lists trains and platform numbers? Is there an information booth?
I am guessing the DLI is rather big and busy -- how about Agra and Varanasi -- is train/platform information readily available ? Does anyone know if there are maps of the stations which show where the various trains leave from? Thanks! |

Yes, there is a big board in all of the urban stations, and also a station master's office that you can easily reach. Also, due to the courtesy of official India towards visitors, you can almost always poke your head in the side or back door and get help without waiting.
While you'll have no trouble getting your train information, it is a good idea to be a bit early to be able to adjust to last minute changes. Also don't assume that once you've got your platform information that it won't change. It sometimes does to accomodate incoming and outcoming requirements related to off schedule movements. Double check about twenty minutes before departure. |

Thanks for the info -- I just like to figure things out ahead of time so that I won't look lost in a busy railway station

I've found, on a couple of occasions, that the big board at New Delhi RS didn't have the correct platform listed. I think it usually happens when trains are delayed by fog in winter and the whole timetable goes awry. I think I may have a slight hearing defect as I can never pick up the information coming over the PA system so I often check with Indian fellow passengers, who have a lifetimes experience of the workings of Indian Railways. Also look out for any mass movement of passengers from your platform. If you are among a handful of people patiently waiting for a major train then there is probably something wrong. |

Delhi is Old Delhi Station, and Delhi Cantt is Delhi Cantonment station, both are in Delhi, Old Delhi is closer to New Delhi Station, Delhi Cantt can be far, if New Delhi is your hang out, but its not in another City, though it may feel like that!! :-)
