Help! Need to get to Kerala

Can anyone help...? Staying in Goa at the moment, have just moved on from a lovely peaceful time in Patnem to Bagadorm (as I like to call it) and need/want to get to Kerala asap. Have checked train time table and there is w/l till mid May (havent checked beyond)....can anyone suggest any other way to get there or suggest somewhere could maybe stop in between to break journey up? Want to stay near a beach for now, not too hectic - just want to get out of Goa really :-( Was thinking Gokarna? Does anyone know how to get there by train? Any help appreciated :-)

You can get to Gokarna by bus also. Should take around 4 hours.

Here's a site with some good info on Gokarna.

BTW, how was Patnem? Was it crowded? Is the Om restaurant still there? What are prices for rooms now?

The Madgaon - Mangalore train stops at Gokarna Road as do some other services. The station is a (fair) few kilometres from Om Beach. But Gokarna isn't much further down the road to Kerala from where you are now, how 'bout Udupi or Kasaragod (for Bekal)?

If you don't mind an overnight sleeper coach (bus) journey, there is a way to get to Kerala without having to wait for a confirmed seat in one of the trains from Madgoan to Kerala. The train ride from Goa to Udupi or Mangalore (in Karnataka) takes about 4-5 hours by train. This distance is short enough to be attempted in the unreserved or general class train compartment. From either Udupi or Mangalore, you can catch a sleeper coach to Ernakulam/Kochi.The distance is about 500 kms and travelling time, 10 hours. The bus departs at about 6 pm from Udupi( 8:00 pm from Mangalore) and reaches Ernakulam around 6 am.

If you wish to travel to Gokarna, then its even more convenient traveling on one of the daily trains in the Konkan route - the time taken would be around 2 hours from Madgoan to Gokarna station. http://www.konkanrailway.com lists the schedule of trains.
