Help Major Problems Getting Irctc To Work
Hi Everyone
Well I have been at the internet cafe for an hour now and have achieved nothing so far. This is what I have done so far and it just doesn't want to work: I logged into the IRCTC site and put in the train codes ie DR to THVM being one of the trains I need to book. Chose my class and I-ticket and waited. It came up with a page error saying I had taken too long or pressed the back button which I don't recall doing and to my knowledge I entered the info quick enough. Anyway tried again and again and again until I finally got past this stage and it asked me for the passenger details which I filled in myself and my husband. Got passed this stage and it came up with bank required. I understood that I had to choose ICICI Bank as this is the only one that has VISA facility? Did this and it asked for a username and password, I assumed this was the same user name and password as for IRCTC site but it came back invalid. Do I have to register separately with the ICICI Bank first? and now that I've hit the back button I've had to go through the whole process again and can't get beyond the bit where it asks for me to choose the train and then it comes up with "the page cannot be displayed". What am I supposed to do. This is the first train I am trying to book and I have 4 that I have to book today and I have come a long way into Edinburgh to try and get this done and am getting knowwhere fast. Can anyone throw any light on things? Cheers Lisa |

To use most credit cards you need to go through Gateway 1 (operated by citibank) about 3 or 4 down the payment list. If you go through the first citibank site you need a citibank account which may be the same with the ICICI site. Try gateway 1 All the best Edited - you dont NEED to use Gateway 1, but I found it the best! |

Hoorah - Think I've Mastered It!
Well, I think I've managed to book the following tickets:
Train: Jan Shatadbadi Express Class: CC. Mumbai to Thivim Seats 70 (WS) and 69 Train: Mumbai Mail Class: 2A. Katni to Mumbai Seats 17 & 18 SL & SU Not to sure about these ones cos I think I remember someone saying side seats don't have much room for the over 6ft tall people but this was the only seats I was offered! Train: 8478 Agra to Umaria Class 3A Seats 53 MB & 51 MB Does this sound OK? & lastly Train 2963 Delhi to Bharatpur Class Sleeper Seat 10 MB & 9 LB What a nightmare it all was though - it's taken me 4hrs cos the internet site kept saying web page not found etc etc - several attempts later and I think I've cracked it. How easy is it to change seats once on the train if the seats are not good ones ie I'm a bit concerned about side berth seats given the info on Indiamike but obviously any seats are better than none. Cheers Lisa |

Hi Lisa,
WOW!!! That is a great achievement for you, I guess, now that you have all your tickets booked on the almost impossible to get through site!!! I feel so happy for you now!!! Although I am not too happy with the seat allocations for you as the side berths are very small in length and I (being 6 feet tall) usually have to sleep in a Z shape to fit in at night. In the daytime they are the best seats as you are alone in each of them and you don't have to share them with anyone else as well as they are both window seats and you sit facing each other so easy to talk too. Also the middle berths are a pain to get into when you have to sleep at night and have to crawl into the berths at night with not enough space when you suddenly get up and bang your head against the top berth!!! So take care when sleeping in them. You can always request the Ticket Collector to change your seats if possible at the time he comes to check your tickets or even before you board the train if he is nearby on the station platform. He may charge you a little bit (Rs50 maximum per seat) but then I suppose that is fine when you get a lower or upper berth instead of the middle and side berths which are very uncomfortable. Hope this helps. Cheers, Aadil.
