Help! IRCTC messed up my account.
Help! IRCTC messed up my account.
Yesterday, when I logged in my IRCTC account, instead of the default "plan my travel" page, a different page opened up asking my mobile number. I filled in my number and confirmed. Afterwards, they sent me an sms with my user-id and a new password.
Now niether my old password works nor the one they sent me via sms. Therefore, I am unable to log in to my account. I have a confirmed ticket which I might need to cancel soon.
Please advise what I should do.

Did you try using the "Forgot Password" link? Or email For Cancellation E-tickets: etickets@irctc.co.in. Use the same email that you used for registering.
Its been a long while since I registered and many things have changed since. Sorry can't be of any more help.

When did you last use the account?
I set one up for my wife last week, booked a train and left it at that. Having just logged in to see if she would get the message about the phone number - which she didn't - I noticed that I had put a mobile number in when registering. It's not an Indian number though it's just the last ten digits of her UK number.
I guess no verification of the number has been done as her account is still fine.

I logged in to book a ticket for another person. That time the account worked fine. The problem started after logging out and logging in again.
I don't remember the security question or answer that I used while registering. I never thougt that I would land in such a situation where even the correct password won't work.
I am sending an e-mail to IRCTC. Let's hope something works out or I'll have to bear a loss of INR 5K.

Try sending a e-mail saying that you are unable to reset your password. They would cancel the ticket on your behalf. Actually I have two tickets booked for the same journey on different dates. I'll choose one of them depending when my work gets over. So as you might guess, the cancellation would be at the last moment.
Anyways it is more important for me to get the access to my account since I regularly use it to book tickets.
I have dropped them an e-mail. Let's see what they reply. I'll try calling thier helpline tomorrow.

After you fill in your mobile number and your email address, IRCTC will send you two passwords, one to your mobile number and one to your email address. You need to enter both to access your account. Once that is done you can change your password to one of your choice.
I went through a similar situation a few days ago. After asking for my mobile number, I received a new password by SMS. I also received an email with a different password. When I tried to log on to my account, I got a window asking for both my passwords, which I entered and was then asked to change my passwords to a single one of my choice.
I think they are trying to verify both the email ID as well as the contact number. Hence the dual passwords.

I have not recieved any password via e-mail. Only a password via sms. I am sure that my e-mail id is correct since I always recieve notification of tickets booked from my account.
I have sent them two e-mails but did not get any reply except for the automated reply. Their CC is as unhelpful. The CC representative advised me to send an e-mail instead.
Any idea how much time they take to respond to such issues? Do they actually respond to e-mails?

My phone number is Indian. And I did recieve the code via sms. The problem was with the e-mail.
Anyways, that issue has been resolved. I was able to reset my password using security question.
But I must say e-mailing IRCTC was of no help.

Hi all,
I want to let you know about a measure taken by IRCTC these days.
IRCTC is making a thorough scrutiny of the ID's that are registered to them to cop up with the travel agent nexus.
Many accounts are deactivated as the owners of those accounts were using multiple accounts. They are also rechecking the accounts by resetting the passwords and sometime asking for validating the mobile numbers provided to them.
Although some initial problems are there but they will make the system in order as soon as possible.
If someone is having any problem they can mail to irctc from the mail ID which was used to register.
