I was talking to a friend yesterday and she too said she is not able to use her SBI debit card anymore. But I really don't know more than this.

My axis bank direct payment disappeared, then reappeared.

I loathe this dreadful site: Couldn't even access my bookings to check them the other day. I have a name for it, steaming pile of stinking doggy dung!

Thanks. It makes me smile, which neutralises the frustration.

It's hard to say steaming heap of stinking doggy dung without smiling.

I don't think overseas debit cards were ever accepted - only Indian ones.

You'll have to use a credit card.

Looks like State Bank of India (SBI) and SBI Associate banks are still there from your list.

Depends what logos (and therefore what chipset, one presumes) it carries, and the card will only work in machines carrying those same logos. Best to call your bank about it, to ask how widely accepted their card will be over there. There are websites showing the same, I don't know any good ones off the top of my head. Ask your bank about fees per withdrawal while you're at it, these can be rather steep (and it's usually your own bank that takes them, not the bank where you make the withdrawal), so if so, make fewer and larger withdrawals to avoid any unpleasant surprises upon your return. Or switch banks.

For the booking btw, maybe you know someone with a credit card who wants to do it for you.

And pps I wouldn't expect your ATM card to be much use for making direct purchases no. So use it to withdraw money, then pay your costs with that.

You can use your debit card as a credit card. Hence the "visa" stamp on it. If you don't want to use a credit card, I would suggest just using it as a credit card.

Also, as an example, if you click on Credit Card payments with Citibank PG, the gateway gives you an option to choose debit cards. I don't know how well it works but even under the credit card PG option there's a debit card selection once you're at the gateway website. At least for Citibank.

I only used my credit card tough.

At least in city shops it will be fine. They even have chip'n'pin compatible machines --- although they just cannot believe that you don't have to sign the print-out as well!

Very interesting, and something we would never have guessed from the information available on the site .

Maybe, caz_a, you could try that: nothing to loose!

Do please let us know if it works
