goa to hampi

What is the best way to get from Goa to Hampi? If I want to tour around the Hampi area is it worth hiring a car and driver (we are four people) and if so,how much would it cost us for a few days?

Check the following 2 links for train details.

Goa to Hampi.

Goa - Hampi + Goa - Bangalore + Hampi - Bangalore

Sorry, I have no experience of hiring a car and driver.

Take a train !!

Take the train from Margao(Madgaon) to Hospet only 25 minutes from the ruins at Hampi.
I been raving on for a while about this train journey as it really is one of the nicest I've made over the years.
From Margao the train winds it's way up the western ghats through beautiful rain forest and gives you a wonderful view of the Dudhsagar waterfalls, something you won't see if you take a car!!
The forest eventually gives way to an arid plateau with amazing rock formations, not to be missed!!
The link below gives you a glimpse of the said waterfall. Curtisy of Midnite toker

I have PM'd you the timetable!!

Happy traveling

Hi there!

While in Hampi either rent a bike or motorcycle for the day. I just got a Auto-Rik to take me around all day to the various ruins for I think 300,-.

happy travels!

getting from goa to hampi if can't travel on days of train

Hey I would like to travel to hampi from goa but my trip does not coincide with the days of train travel which is a real pain the business. Is a taxi just ridiculous? I don't want to miss out on the scenery by taking a night bus?

Cheers, M

Thank you so much for getting back to me with train information, I really appreciate it.

I am not sure if I am being stupid though.

Am I correct in assuming that the tri-weekly train (saturday, sunday and Wednesday) to Hospet from Goa are ceasing to operate from middle of November?

And then the new timetable...I'm not sure i understand, but is there a train every day from Vasco? I don't know where Vasco is, but assume it is Goa?

Kindest regards,

Miranda x

Vasco or Vasco De Gama is indeed in Goa as is Madgaon (Margao) The train suggested is a connecting train from Vasco to Hubli and from Hubli to Hospet, it is a daily connection.

The two trains seem to connect so this is an option.

If you don't want to muck about with changes then I suggest the sleeper bus Paulo Travels or Here

Dear Miranda,

The 4 Days in a week Train (**which is yet to come) is a replacement to the present tri-weekly. Hence, unless the 4 days in a week train comes, the tri-weekly train won't go.

As per the prevailing informatrion, the Railway Authorities effect this change-over after 15th November,2006. If not, the tenure of the tri-weekly gets extended.

Goa is the name of the State. Vasco is the Capital which has also got Railway Station. Another important Railway Station in the Goa State is Madgaon where the Mumbai-Kerala Route and Hospet-Vasco Route meet. The Trains coming from Mumbai or Kerala, however, by-pass Vasco.

Dear Miranda,

It will take some more time, before the proposed 4-days in a week Train becomes a daily train.

Highway 4 from Panjim to Londa is in HORRIBLE condition -- I had the misfortune to travel that way by private car yesterday and beyond Ponda, in particular, the road is mostly broken up and is used mainly by a steady stream of mining trucks -- I'm told there are 5000 trucks plying this route. If taking the bus, be sure to ask which route the operators are taking; apparently the longer route via Karwar is much better and some companies do go this way.

All in all, the train is a much better option if the schedule works for you. The condition of the road also makes visits to Mollem (and the park) or Dudhsagar falls a real ordeal at present.
