Getting from Delhi Airport to Delhi Train Station

I am arriving into Delhi by BA at 1.30am, we have a train to Jaipur the same day at 6.05, there are 6 of us, 3 adult and 3kids, what is the quickest/easiest way to get from the international airport to New Delhi train station? do they have mini buses? roughly how much and how long at that time of the night. Would expect to get out of the airport by 3am at the latest, all being well so give me about 2.5 hours to get to the station. Help and thoughts appreciated.

The best bet would be to hire two pre-paid taxis as there are 6 of you with luggage. Shouldnt take you more than 45 mins to reach the train station at that time and probably another 10 mins to find your train. You should check out the cannon at Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur.

Prepaid taxi is the safest bet.....as Twiggy says. Sometimes the prepaid taxi counter doesn't operate at very late hours..........in that case, you can hire private taxis/ cars ( more expensive) but the service is better. The counter for hiring such vehicles are in close proximity to the prepaid taxi counter.

Taxis operate all night!

You might want to check out these threads from the Delhi forum:

Prepaid cab from IGI Airport

Radio Cabs / Dial-a-Cab in Delhi

My advice would be to compare the prices of prepaid taxis and radio cabs when you arrive. The booking booths for both are just after you come through customs.

I have a question about this too! On the morning of the 19th of march, i will be leaving jaipur by train and need to be at Delhi airport in time for a 1600hrs flight to Goa.....is this do-able? If so, what is the latest time you would advise to get into New Delhi train station? Any advice would be welcome......Organising this trip is turning out to be hard work, but very enjoyable nonetheless!

What time does the train depart Jaipur, and whats the arrival time in Delhi? You could be pushing it.

Ideally you'll need to be at the airport probably 1 and a half to 2 hours prior to departure - and any delays with the train trip means you could run out of time completely. Might be safer to travel to Delhi the day before.

overall the trains are pretty reliable and don't get cancelled that often I guess (certainly nothing like the delays and cancellation you get with flts out of Delhi this time of year).

Given that the train is scheduled to arrive almost 5 hours prior to the flight - you could endure even a slight delay and still be ok. The only issue at present that might upset that is the almost daily occurrence of fog in Delhi at the moment. This impacts both train and flt schedules (usually the fog is burned off by say 10am - but the impact on schedules might last all day). Hopefully someone who has travelled into Delhi recently on one of the morning trains might be able to advise.

To 'GoonerUK' - I actually had the same idea as you (no doubt on a different date though) - I arrive in Delhi on a 1:25am BA flight, then have booked the 6:05 Jaipur train. I think getting a pre-booked cab from the airport shouldn't be a problem and was glad to have this confirmed by the above posts, as wasn't a 100% sure myself and it's my first time in India. Have a great time.

Normally, fog is not that big a deal in Jaipur; so if you're starting your journey from there, you shd be fine. I would've been worried if you're starting early morn from Delhi.

You could be cutting it fine. Airport is at an extremity of delhi and Sarai Rohilla is right in the center. It will be Diwali eve and expect lots of traffic. Advisable if you can get in earlier/leave later. Fastest will be for you to take a radio taxi; counters are there before you leave the terminal building.

You will be landing in the Terminal 1-D or 1-C, which are not directly connected by Delhi Airport Metro Express, like T-3. You may travel like this:

Take an airport shuttle bus( check from Enquiries) and move to T-3 ( 15 mins and Rs.25/- per head)....and then board the Metro straight to New Delhi Railway Station or the Shivaji Stadium( the 2nd last station).
From here take an auto. The Sarai Rohilla is in the Karol Bagh area.
- If you want to travel by auto in the last leg, I think the Shivaji Stadium is the better option to get down.
- If the Airport shuttle is not available in the Airport take the Radio-cab service ( Rs.120/- per head)...which will drop you at the Aero-city station. This station is on the Delhi Metro Airport Express line. You can board the Metro from here.

If you wanna Metro it all the way. Get down at New Delhi Rl Stn..and change over to the Yellow line, upto Kashmere Gate. Get down at Kashmere gate and change over to the Red line( towards Rithala)...and travel upto Shastri Nagar station. You have to get down here and do the rest of the journey by Auto, as per the map given below:
http://maps.google.co.in/maps?f=d&so...22724&t=k&z=16

This plan glosses over the frequent change overs in the Metro stations, repeated luggage scanning, security checks and other hassles. But it helps, if there are atleast 2 of you travelling. One can wait and watch the luggage and the other can go and get the tickets. In any case you will make it well in time.

And miles to go before I sleep,
