Getting from Cochin to Munnar

Looking for the best/ easiest/ quickest way to get from Ernakulam to Munnar. Hope someone who knows the area can help with suggestions. (I've also posted this on TT). Thanks,
Kay

Quickest way is probably by hiring a driver and car. It's a long winding road - about 5 hours by car and I believe the bus takes longer. Also it's good in a car because you can get the driver to take you round the countryside a bit to see the amazing tea plantations (on routes where the bus does not reach) and some of the fabulous villas and hotels set out in remote parts of the plantations.

Try to get to Echo point and Matupatty lake - breathtaking!

If money is no object there are some stunning lodges and hotels but not in the town itself - 5 star - sheer luxury where you could stay but you are looking at upwards of 4,000 rupees a night.

There is nothing much to do in the town.... so plan on a night or two and then move on or get out of Munnar and go walking at Top End.

The cheapest....... Go to the KSRTC bus station and catch a bus (a few services a day)

Or catch a private bus service (i beleive they start from somewhere near the Ernakulam South railway station) or the Palarivattom private bus terminal.

There are a few OK hotels even in the Vadapalani area (where the studios AVM, Vijaya etc) are located.
