hey! its worth it 200%

you are paying rs. 600/- for 3 tier a.c. coach and travelling 1500 kms, and its cheapest in the world, just carry your own food from home.... and this train is fast too... i have travelled in this train 4 times and it was on time every time.... i was too happy to reach in delhi for such a little amount.... and train is also good....

happy journey

Hai GB,
You are correct. There are no good trains that run regularly as they do between Delhi -Mumbai. or Dehli - Kolkata or Delhi -Patna. Southern states are completely neglected. Anyway Graib rath is good idea but not for those who are in need- people in Hyderabad and Chennai.

Hmmm, the south has it's Garib Rath trains, here's 3 that use go to the cities you mention, I'm sure there are more, but these are all I can remember at the moment.

Delhi-Chennai Garib Rath
Hyderabad-Yesvantpur Garib Rath
Yesvantpur-Kochuveli Garib Rath
.

Hai Stev,
Thanks for reminding me of these "rare" trains. What I was refering to was of non availability of trains on regular basis to important cities as in the cities mentioned. This is the main reason why the road transport is much better in the southern states for they know that self-help is best help.

Garib Rath (GR) is totally worth but I never got an opportunity to travel. Chennai-Delhi GR runs weekly and it's almost impossible to get confirmed berths unless you reserve 7-10 weeks in advance.

Chennai is neglected compared to B'lore (forget Mumbai/Delhi). B'lore has GB to Hyderabad, Puducherry, Delhi (not a weekly train like the MAS-NZM GR) and Goa.

Forget GR, even Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, Rajdhani (twice weekly only?) trains are neglected in south especially Southern Railway (TN and Kerala).

Steven -
Does B'lore got GR to Kochuveli (Thiruvananthapuram)?

Yes, I used the train in January, a very nice, comfortable train.

Dear drgrudge,

B'lore has GB to Hyderabad, Puducherry, Delhi (not a weekly train like the MAS-NZM GR) and Goa.

##If you meant Garib Rath by GB, then there is no GR from Bangalore to Goa and Delhi.

Sorry. I meant the Vasco da Gama Garib Rath Express/0695. I think it's a special and not a regular train. And I confused Karnataka Sampark Kranti with GR. Nonetheless, B'lore is well off than Chennai.

Yet strangely, I had no trouble getting bookings between Delhi and Vijayawada or Chennai (3 times), but problems getting booking between Delhi and Bangalore.

Thanks for the info. What happens to the MAS-NZM GR? It runs weekly and what does it do while it's not running. I think SR can have a MS-NZM-MS-MDU-MS schedule. There's a lot of demand for southern TN destinations.

What's your point? You got berths to BZA/MAS because of the relatively high number of trains or is the SBC route more in demand?

Dear drgrudge,

The rake of incoming 2612 that arrives in MAS at 20.10 hrs. (**normally gets delayed) on Tuesdays is NOT used and again sent as 2611 on Saturdays at 6.10 hrs.
-----
In fact, the SR did tried MAS-CBE AC Special with this Rake, but it could not elicit the desired patronage and hence withdrew the same.
----
The VM-TPJ-MDU stretch is highly saturated.
