From when on can I board a night train at the starting station?

I want to go by 8508 HIRAKUND EXP AMRITSAR JN 23:55 NEW DELHI 07:55. Since the train departs late, I would like to board it at maybe 10 pm and start sleeping. Does anyone know at what time boarding is permitted?

it is permitted anytime you want...I don't thing it would be washed or cleaned at that hour....

However it might be standing on the platform from where it would be leaving...it might be standing on a desolate track...however it might reach the designated platform 30 minutes before the departure time...

In my experience, trains rarely arrive at the platform very far in advance of their departure time.

The last time I took a train from Amritsar, the train did not pull into the platform until 10 minutes before departure.

(And even if you were able to board early, you really think you'd be able to sleep as the rest of the train filled up? In India??

That doesn't leave a lot of time in case the train arrives late, is this train reliable?

There seems to be plenty of slack in that timetable - and 90 minutes to cover the last 40km!

Even Virgin Trains could not fail to be on time with that sort of schedule.

So I may run a certain risk that this train is several hours late, right? Do you think it will be safer to go by
2904 +GOLDN TEMPLE ML AMRITSAR JN 21:35 NEW DELHI 07:10 ? This train arrives in Amritsar at 16:15, having 5 hrs to recover from possible delays.

Yes I looked wrong, so this train is pretty safe. I wanted to check if the other train is in time usually. Once I read about a web site showing this, but I can't remember which one. Do you know?
