Food On The Punjab Mail?

Does anyone know if there is food available on the train? If not, do people who sell food come around and if so, what kind of food would be available(i.e. snacks or something more substantial like daal and rice)? I'll be travelling from Ferozepur with my kids and we have a 20 hour train ride ahead of us and would like to know what to expect.

I've ridden this train before, but only from Delhi to Ferozepur and at night and far as I know from 9pm at night to 7am in the morning, no one came around about any food.

Dal, Rice & Chapatis will be available. vendors will come to sell wafers and soft drinks too....

With kids, you may like to carry some foodstuff with you.

Hi,

Pantry Car is available on this train which means frequent food will be delivered.

Snacks includes Cuttlet, Omlete, sandwiches.

Dinner includes veg and non-veg.
Rice, chapati or puri, dal, sweet and 1 vegatable ( or 1 portion of non-veg) will be served as per selection. Sometimes vg, non-veg and egg biryani is also served.

You need to pre-order this. Local pantry guys will move around in the train before dinner taking orders against your seat number.

Make sure you book your dinner order well in advance and have the food with you. I have noticed that the food doesnt reach the passengers whose coach is far from pantry car. The reason is this train stops after every half an hour (station) and you will see lot of intercity ( not end to end) passengers. Since the money is paid on food delivery and not on food order, these pantry guys sale the food booked by you to intercity passengers (if demanded by them against some extra money). I have faced this while travelling in 2138 from Bina to Kalyan where I had to adjust with veg food instead of chicken briyani ordered.

Needless to say this is no longer a premium train and is worst during night especially from Itarsi to Manmad/Kalyan sector where stops are frequent, people sit near your feet even if you are asleep.

Regards,
Rakesh Mangtani
