Provided is a word that means different things to different people.

Food is provided free in Rajdhani trains (and some others), although it's not free, you already paid for it through the higher cost of your ticket.

Food is provided in most trains with bookable classes, but it isn't free.

If the train has a pantry car, the food comes from there, if not, the train staff will take food orders and pick up the food at the next big station before bringing the food to your seat.

Food is cheap, quality is a bit hit & miss, sometimes good, sometimes poor.

Yes Eklavya,

I have traveled in Duronto Express and have seen all the facilities of Shatabdi Express available in the train.

Try ordering on phone or website

I have heard of a service called travelkhana which allows you to order packed sealed food for any station across India. I got their leaflet outside the station as I was travelling last month.

that was a bit of overstatement. they currently cover only certain train/station combinations...

i just came to know that nagpur-mumbai duranto does not provide food. very inconvenient, considering it leaves origin at 9PM, so one has to eat very early & leave to the station or have food at the station or bring food from home/station & have it on board. also it reaches destination at 8AM, so assuming it takes about 1-2 hrs to reach your destination at mumbai, one has to either have a very late breakfast or eat something at the station or pack food from home for next day morning as well. could they not serve a basic packed snack & tea/coffee in the morning?

After missing meal stops a couple of times, I never get on an Indian train without some sort of food. Usually I carry fruit, biscuits, hard-boiled eggs, and sometimes buy something from the restaurant at the station, as well.

Does anyone know when food is provided on the Pune-Nizammudin Duronto Express. The train leaves Pune @ 11:10 AM & reaches Nizammudin at 7:00 AM next day. So I'm hoping that they will provide dinner but what about lunch? Also, do they provide early morning breakfast the next day?
