Are you talking about 3A ( Three tier a c coach ) as you don't have three tire II class coaches in Duranto ? If it is so food is reasonably good and you can choose between Veg. & Non Veg. food.

According to Indiarailinfo train 12269 does have Sleeper class coaches. There is a menu for Duronto Sleeper class on page 262 of "Trains At A Glance" but I can't find an electronic copy to post a link to.

The choice is a bit limited - omelette or veg cutlet for breakfast.

The menu for lunch and dinner is exactly the same giving a choice of egg curry or sabzi along with rice, dal and parantha.

From a note at the bottom of the menu it looks like these meals are not included in the ticket cost, unlike other classes on Durontos.

Yes, the menu is same for both lunch and dinner. If you choose non-veg option, you only get egg-curry..there is no chicken or fish available.
But, the cost of meals is included in the ticket price even for Sleeper class tickets.

rajdhani does not have sleeper class (only 1a,2a,3a)
duranto has sl on select routes (which have not been cleared for high speed - as high speed needs closed windows for some reason).

ac food quality is comparable in rajdhani & duranto
sl food quality in duranto is similar to what you get from the average pantry car

@ Ajay Khurana- Remember to mention veg or non veg option while buying Duronto Train Ticket; otherwise food price will not be included. Food in general cannot be compared to other trains and is pretty non descript. Also outside choices limited as food is inbuilt in the ticket.

Also be careful of venturing out of train to buy anything as stoppages will be 5 mins and less. Better to parcel some food items with you to augment what you get in train.

It would not matter when one selects the veg or non-veg option. By default one has to select either of the option.
Even if it can be assumed that one can do away without selecting the option, food price is always included within the fare of the ticket.

If that is correct why does it say the following on P 262 of Trains at a Glance?

"The catering charges in sleeper class of Duronto trains for various services are Rs. 45/- for lunch/dinner. Rs 30/- for breakfast and Rs. 5/- for tea/coffee inclusive of service tax @ 5.10%"

Railway Board releases point to point fare structure for Duronto and Rajdhani after which food charge and development charges are added up by the respective zones under which the train belongs.

I wonder why people are so curious to know the exact details as to what will be on the menu in a meal served during a train journey. Quite a few threads on this subject.

It never occured to me to know in advance what airline food will I get served or what will be on my plate on a train journey between Madras and Bangalore.

That too, wanting to know this detail days or weeks in advance.

Damn, I don't even know what I want for lunch 2 hrs before.

It is amazing and amusing to know how planned out some people's lives are.

Dave, is that the latest Trains At A Glance you are referring to? Maybe they used to charge separately before. But since the last 1 year I am sure all tickets in Sleeper class includes the price of meals. There is no separate pricing to buy a ticket without the charge of meals.
If no choice is mentioned when buying a ticket, then by default you will get Veg meals.
