Granted Nick it's well published, I wonder though, how do ancient arts like the "making of rural fuel" influence things, think a little further and other arenas open up apart from infected foodstuffs!!

Eww - Gross! Tape worm Any foods that are likely to be less cooked then others? For some reason I picture keemas cooked better & longer than chicken or a meat curry.

Think I may have to start a new thread... coming up with ideas but they are not directly related.

With the exception of Tandoori food which might be a little rare, pretty much everything in Indians cuisine seems amply stewed to me!! If that doesn't kill the little buggers the chilli will!!

For a comparison of food on two different trains, see:

Overnight Train to Varanasi (from Delhi)
http://sprangleblog.com/?p=47

and compare that with the experience (including photos of meal service) on Overnight Train to Mumbai (Mathura to Mumbai)

What! Tandoori food is not as 'well-done'? I always thought it would be scorched. You've seen 'pinkness' around the chicken bones?

On the odd occasion yes but that's over a long period of eating in Indian restaurants!!

Most Tandoori food is "well cooked" Kebabs have never let me down, skewered chicken half or whole should be scrutinised before the enjoyment of wolfing it down!!

Funny thing is I'd choose a run of the mill "street Tandoori restaurant" over a "sit in restaurant" everytime. Why? Cause the guys who cook exclusively in a Tandoor know what they're doing. and the time needed to do it!

A Cook in a restaurant mighten have that experience!! I know that good Tandoori Chefs are sought after........there's a reason for that !!

In conclusion Lot's of Restaurants, lots of times, with lot's of meat, no Gardia, no flukes, no tape worm and only the mildest of dysentrys!

That's one man's experience and should be treated that way! No science involved but eating meat that is well cooked in India??? I really think the odds are on your side!!

Much of the meat you'll eat will be A LOT fresher than stuff you would eat at home!!

I have a question too r.e. fast train from Delhi to Ludhiana. My company assures me that this is the way to travel. Would be in 1AC carriage, just wondering what the general facilities etc are like on board, and also the likelihood of being hassled for a blond female westerner.(apart from the stations at ether end!)

I have travelled on Indian city trains before i.e. Bombay, but nothing semi-long-distance.

Thanks

AusE,
Chances of being harassed is very less in the 1A compartment. And, I think train is the way to travel to Ludhiana. No need to worry, have a safe journey

Hi All,

My latest experience with Shatabdi (chandigarh -delhi) and Rajdhani (delhi -howrah) Was Very nice. Especially the food (breakfast, evening snack ,dinner (veg -non-veg) at Rajdhani was clean, well packed , hot, good quantity and good to eat. I have seen the supervisors checking the meals before it was served to the passengers. Overall a very happy experience.

Hi Smita,

I plan to take the same route while my trip back from Himachal in Dec'09 week 1. My queries are as below:
  1. Did you take the morning Shatabdi or the evening one from CDG to NDLS?
  2. I understand majority of the Kalka-Delhi Shatabdi passengers board at CDG, did your experience say so as well?
  3. Did you find any issue with storing the luggage? (depends on the luggage size and nos. obviously)
  4. Last but not the least, did you travel Executive Chair Car (1A) or Chair Car of the Shatabdi section?
Many thanks in advance!

P.S. Would you like to meet fellow Kolkata IndiaMikers at an upcoming meetup on 24-Oct-09? See the Kolkata Meetup thread for more details.

I couldn't help but, make a comment on the phrase "1AC carriage". Would that be horse drawn or camel back? One hump or two hump? Just kidding, trying to make a lighter conversation since the word carriage seems so "oh, Victorian".

Anyway, no worries - since you posted in May and did not have any flames to post after that, it is safe to assume that all went well.

Do share the train journey experience.

Cheers

Nattusbs

Nattusbs - Carriage also means passenger car (a railcar where passengers ride) - just google it - though it is an old-world word kind of, yes! As old as 1388

@Smita - many thanks to answer my queries!

Hi indracal,

Answers to your queries
1. I took a morning Shatabdi ( 6.53 a.m) from CDg to NDLS.
2. You are right majority of the passengers board at CDG.
3. Yes there are issues of luggage storage. You will have to board the train quickest to get your share of space. There is space at the back seat but it would not be convinient.
4. I travelled by Chair Car.

thanks for the invitation of the Kolkata IndiaMikers meetup. I would be travelling to Pune though. Thanks again
