The 'Seat 61' website is fantastic, the information about Indian Railways alone would make it a great site; he has great information about railways in most countries of the world.

The man who runs the site is called Mark Smith , he always tries to book seat 61 on Eurostar, hence the name of the site.

Goa to Del

I need to take a train from Madgaon to travel up north.
Can I take an evening train to Hyderabad. Stop there for the day, and take a superfast or Rajdhani to Nizammudin?

This thread is 3 years old.

You can take a Rajdhani from Madgaon to Delhi, this would be the fastest way.

If you wanted to visit Hyderabad though.......

Yes, Part of the train that goes to Hospet (7227 or something like that) goes on to Hyderabad (arriving early morning).

HOWEVER

The above mentioned train is being replaced, should be from 2nd December, and at the moment, there is no mention of any carriages going all the way to Hyderabad.

Trains

OK, Steven Ber, you are the train man. If I go, as I believe you suggested in a different thread, from Agra to Varanasi by night train, what is the source and destination of this train? It does not appear to be Agra, Delhi, or Varanasi. If you also have the name and number of the train, I'll be in pig's heaven! (You know me as tuxie in a different source of threads).

The 'source and destination' is refering to you and not the train, where you want to get on the train, and where you want to get off the train.

In your case the source would be AF (Agra Fort) and the destination would be BSB (Varanasi).

The train you want is called the Marudhar Express.

Agra to Varanasi.

Train 4864 departs Agra Fort (Tue, Wed, Fri & Sun.) at 21:15 and gets to Varanasi at 08:15

2A = Rs 1073
3A = Rs 690
SL = Rs 256

Train 4854 departs Agra Fort (Mon, Thu & Sat.) at 21:15 and gets to Varanasi at 09:30

2A = Rs 1119
3A = Rs 719
SL = Rs 266

Fantastic Train Information from Steven

Thank you so much Steven. I am digesting the Seat61 information too. You suggested going from Varanasi up to New Jalpaiguri overnight. So far, I have only found a train that goes from Delhi and up via Patna, but it does not seem to stop in Varanasi. There is a Radhjani Express that does, but only on Thursdays and Saturdays. We wanted to travel on a Friday. The one from Amritsar doesn't seem to be the solution either. Can you help? We would prefer to go First Class A/C, but 2AC would also be OK.

re fantastic train information from steven

Steven, further to my previous post. The trains I found went through BSB. Is there another station?

Try the following link.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/src_dest_trns.html

Mughal Sarai is about 18 Kms from Varanasi, station code = MGS
New Jalpaiguri = NJP

There are a couple of trains on Fridays that will suit you, but this route has regular delays, so expect your train to arrive at NJP a couple of hours late.

BSB (Varanasi Junction) is the main station for Varanasi.

I think a couple of the weekly trains that pass through the Agra Varanasi section go on to Guwahati (Assam) and Calcutta.

Dear Steven,

The 7227/7228 has since been replaced with 2847/2848 with effect from 9.12.2006 and the new Train also carries through coaches between Vasco and Kachiguda with change-over in Dronachalam.

You must have noted that earlier 7227/7228 was a tri-weekly but the new 2847/2848 runs 4 days in a week.
