Ernakulam Town to Madgaon in December question

Hello all,

We are trying to finalise our flights to India. It looks like we would be flying into Kochi, so the easiest way to Madgaon from there seems to be by train.

The train we have found is #2431 Rajdhani Exp leaving at 22:35 and arrives at 12:20. We would like 2A tickets and have been looking at 17th-18th December as rough dates.

The problem is when we look for the dates and check for availability it says 'Not Available', we thought at first this is because it's too far in advance, so checked for 13th November (which you should be able to book for) and 2A is still showing as unavailable as is 3A.

The only thing we can think of is that the #2431 doesn't have 2A or 3A class. The other train we have looked at is #6338 HAPA Exp which has availablity for 2A on 16th December.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

Thanks

I am having a similar problem with Shatabi trains from New Delhi to Haridwar on the 19th Dec. I am not having trouble booking longer trains for Jan 2010.
Most of the replies I have recieved from others a lot more knowledgable than myself is there must be technical difficulties.
Use the www.erail.in site for checking what class seats are availble for the train you want, then go back to IRCTC to book.
Hope that helps.
I have been trying for one train for over 3 weeks!!
Hope that helps

Have a look at this thread Help, train booking problem!

For other trains see Ernakulam Madgaon

What you can do is put the starting point as Trivandrum and ending point as Madgaon when you find train on IRCTC. After clicking on book tickets, you will be taken to the next screen, where you are supposed to provide name and age. In that screen, there is column where you can change the boarding point. You should change it to ERS (Ernakulam) and you will be able to book the tickets. I am assuming you know how to use IRCTC.

Given below is the availability on 17th December

Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
2431 RAJDHANI EXP 17-12-2009 TRIVANDRUM CNTL MADGAON GENERAL

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 2A Class -3A
1 17-12-2009 AVAILABLE 42 AVAILABLE 75

2 18-12-2009 AVAILABLE 30 AVAILABLE 72

3 22-12-2009 AVAILABLE 24 AVAILABLE 67

4 24-12-2009 AVAILABLE 30 AVAILABLE 81

5 25-12-2009 AVAILABLE 11 AVAILABLE 112

6 29-12-2009 AVAILABLE 17 AVAILABLE 55

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips but we are having problems booking this train for 8th December from Trivandrum with a boarding station of Ernakulam.

IRCTC says there are 039 2AC berths available, our payment gets approved through the AXIS gateway but when it redirects back to IRCTC it says the booking cannot be made.

We have booked another journey with no problem and think it may be this train that the problem is with - maybe booking isn't open yet or trying to book with a different boarding station is causing a problem?

Has anyone successfully booked this train with a different boarding train to Trivandrum? We would just book from Trivandrum and change it in person but our flight arrives at 16:30 on the 8th December, so think it may be too late to do this at Ernakulam?

Yes, I had booked for my mom. We booked the ticket through IRCTC with no problems whatsoever for this train. The ticket was from Trivandrum to panvel with boarding station as Trichur.

Do try again and see. If possible, try some other gateway.

##Booking for journey between Two Intermediate Stations falling in the route of Rajdhanis of Indian Railways is NOT permitted, though there are one or two exceptions.

Dear coolsub,

After clicking on book tickets, you will be taken to the next screen, where you are supposed to provide name and age. In that screen, there is column where you can change the boarding point. You should change it to ERS (Ernakulam) and you will be able to book the tickets.

##I have tried to book a ticket from TVC to MAO by 2431 of 30th October.

##The screen mentioned by you did appear, but there was NO provision to change the Boarding Point. In other words, this portion had already gone into "unchangeable mode"!!!

Yes, I had booked for my mom. We booked the ticket through IRCTC with no problems whatsoever for this train. The ticket was from Trivandrum to panvel with boarding station as Trichur.

##Were you able to effect the change before "Making Payment" (or) after making the Payment but before printing the ticket? Just curious!!

Yes, I was. In fact, there were two separate tickets booked for the same train in First AC. Confirmed ticket mind you, with boarding Trichur. In one set my father and brother were booked and in the other my mom and both set tickets were Trivandrum to Panvel with boarding as Trichur. I can provide the PNR number if you want. Funny part was that being in First AC and the only passengers traveling in the whole compartment, the attenders were sound asleep. The bogies were not open. My brother had to enter from another compartment, come to first ac coach and open the doors. Mind you, the train only stops there for 2 minutes and we had good amount of baggage with us. And after all this the attender came asking for tips. I think attenders never thought anyone would enter from Trichur but at least the TT could have alerted them. BTW, food served was excellent.

$$ Before making the payment we were able to change it, the boarding point.

And this is not the first time I am booking tickets like this. This summer there was a special rajdhani on this route that was introduced by the MOSR as gift for Kerala and I had booked tickets for my aunt in the special rajdhani. In this case, this rajdhani had one extra stop between trivandrum and ernakulam, namely Allepey, which is not there in the regular rajdhani. So I had booked tickets for her from Trivandrum to Madgaon with boarding Allepey. This was for class 3A.

IRCTC, nowadays is providing passengers with from (station)
quota and not from boarding station quota. I am a regular traveler on Dadar Chennai. Earlier they used to provide the passengers the boarding point quota, say some 4 years back. One example is four years back when I was in Pune. Generally I plan ahead for my travels, but this was an exception. Pune quota was full and I had to book book ticket with boarding point Lonavala so that I would get the general quota. And recently I had to come back to Chennai from Kalyan. No tickets were available from Kalyan. Pune quota was available. So assuming that if I book ticket from Kalyan to Chennai with boarding Pune, I would be allotted the tickets in Pune quota, but that was not the case and I was wait listed after making payment (IA). I had to cancel the ticket and make another booking from Pune. PNR numbers can be provided on request for the Pune and Kalyan journey.

yes, this is what we have been doing. It's definitely possible to change the boarding point station but when it comes to payment the booking is not made and we don't know why.

Anyway, we have booked on another train (#6336) instead in case we can't book berths on the Radjhani...we will keep trying but don't hold out much hope!

$$ You should click on the train symbol to change it. Otherwise the system by default takes the starting point as boarding point.

We got a reply from IRCTC who said the reason we cannot book these tickets is due to a distance restriction, so we presume vsp27759 is correct that these particular intermediate stations cannot be booked - only those meeting a certain distance requirement will be able to be booked.

Oh well, questions answered and we are glad we booked the other train!
