Enhanced Reservation Fee (train)

I've just noticed the following when looking on the Indian Railways website -
Quote:
Enhanced Reservation Fee for journeys originating from a station other than the one from where ticket has been issued = 15 Rs. Extra (Reservation Charges)
Anyone seen any newspaper/web articles about this?

To add.......

1A = Rs 25 Extra
2A = Rs 15
3A = Rs 15
FC = Rs 15
CC = Rs 15
SL = Rs 10
2S = Rs 10

Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains seem to have an extra charge of Rs 20 for all classes.

Enhanced reservation fee for a journey originating form a station other than the station from where ticket has been issued ? Does this mean that the enhanced fee will be applicable for all i-tickets and e-tickets ?

Dear Steven,
Your observation:-
"Anyone seen any newspaper/web articles about this?"
--------
@@@I have experienced this!!!!!
......
@@@I have reserved ONE Berth in SL Class IN hyderabad for my journey from VISAKHAPATNAM TO SECUNDERABAD and I have paid Rs.30/- as Reservation Fee instead of Rs.20/-. In other words, the ERF is NOT being shown separately in the Ticket like Safety Surcharge.

Thanks vsp, I don't remember reading about this new charge in the budget and it came as a shock to me. (though it's only a small fee)

I'm not sure how they can justify the additional charge.

Good to see you here vsp, I've not seen a post from you in a while, have you been on holiday?

Dear uppal,
It is NOT restricted just to Return Journey Tickets alone.
--------
If you are in Bombay, but booking your ticket in a train from a station other than Bombay, then ERF will be collected from you, even if that particular train originates in Bombay.
========
Dear Steven,
Your guess is correct. I was away from Hyderabad from 5th to 9th inst.
On 4th, I travelled by 7064 from Secunderabad to Nagarsol.
On 5th Shirdi-Nasik.....by Bus.
On 6th, I have travelled by 1404 from Nasik to Thane.
On 8th, I have travelled by 2051 from Dadar to Madgaon.
On 9th, I have travelled by 7228 from Vasco to Kachiguda.
===========
The 2S Seats in 2051 Jan Shatabdhi have cusions and loaded food kitems are served to the passengers, ofcourse, on payment basis. :-)
===========
The journey through Thull Ghat/KR/Briganja Ghat is scintillating, particularly, the speed of 2051 JS. It was hauled by 18596R ED.WDM.3A which touched even 120 Kmph and always maintained 90-100 Kmph speed.

Great news about the 2S seats.

I was fortunate enough to travel from Madgaon to Mumbai on a daytime train during the monsoon, it was amazing, waterfalls everywhere, I was constantly aware of how difficult the line must have been to build, a fantastic bit of engineering.

How was Madgaon to Londa? I've heard it's also a very scenic stretch.

Dear Steven,
Madgaon to Londa is 85 Kms. Out of this the Kulem-Castle Rock (26 Kms.) is simply amazing and must be seen by all those who are interested in scenic areas coupled with train journey.

Second that VSP indeed a fine stretch of scenic track!!
I noticed Vinayverma reminissing over the time where the train would stop for photos at Dudhsagar Falls, must have been wonderful.
The views of the falls as the line takes a huge loop around the valley are amazing first from across the valley then later as the train passes over the falls themself!

I read there used to be an option of spending the night here, in a second class sleeper coach, shunted into the siding!!
Now that would have been great, there were calls to reinstate this little bit of train magic but so far they seem to have fallen on deaf ears!
Another incredible engineering feat Steven, you can smell the brakes on the Castlerock-Kulem stretch, as the driver keeps the downhill speed in check, no mean feat on this gradient!
The train also stops a few times to let the brakes cool off I supect!!

What happens if you buy a ticket from the originating station but request for boarding from another station?

e.g. You book a berth on Howrah - Kalka Kalka Mail from Howrah to New Delhi but you want to board the train from say Durgapur (it is possible) if you buy that ticket in Howrah then does the ERF apply?

PD,

In the above case the ERF will not be applicable, as your ticket is from the same station where you are purchasing it, even if you board the train en route. You are paying for the journey from Howrah; and are purchasing the ticket at Howrah.
