Hello,
I would like to book trains for Sunday, 14.7. from Jaipur to Mumbai and try to be early with the booking, preferably 1st class Air conditioned. When selecting Availability at Major Stations - Jaipur, I get the results page with my preferred train, 12956, at the top. It says: EARLIEST DATE ON WHICH BERTH/SEATS WERE AVAILABLE AT 11:19 HRS. ON 18-06-2012. Firstly, I assume the date, 18-06-2012, refers to the date that any train on the long list that follows would become available. I also assume the "2012" is just an error and should say 2013, or have I missed something?
My 1stAC is mentioned as "06-07", meaning probably that it's not available until then, though this is only a week before departure, whilst the booking horizon otherwise is often mentioned as 60 days.
Am I missing something?

Also, going a different route on the webpage, Services, - Train Berth Availability - Trains/Fare/Accommodation Availability Between ...", then my date 14.7. is greyed out but I can select three days earlier for example. I assume in three days time my date, 14.7. will become available as it's then 60 days before departure and I have to be quick.

If there is someone who can explain this discrepancy between 18-06-2012, 08-07 and a booking time which may only be a couple of days away, then please let me know. Which of the enquiries is the most reliable?
Regards

Bookings for 14th July will open at 8.00 a.m IST on 15th May. If you are planning to book through IRCTC you can book then. If you are using Cleartrip you will need to wait until 12 noon IST.

The best train on this route is the Duronto (Train 12240) but it only leaves Jaipur on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

ADD - Just out of interest which site have you been looking at?

Are you a foreigner? If yes, then the 60 day advance rule does not apply, you can book 360 days in advance. Experts, please correct me if i am wrong.

OK I see. The Official site is not the easiest to use. Have you read this article? http://www.indiamike.com/india-artic...ts-from-abroad It includes links to more user friendly enquiry sites as well as sites that you can actually book through. The government site does not take bookings.

The 360 day ARP applies only if you are booking Foreign Tourist Quota seats/berths. The only way to do this from outside India is by buying an Indrail Pass through an approved agent.

Dear all,
Thanks for all the replies. I managed to book three tickets now, first on the day I wanted to travel, and being na´ve ignored the "W15/WL1" or so when booking and only later found out that this means Waitlist rather than ticket. I then booked tickets a day later with the option "only book when all are in the tame carriage" or so. This gives you a confirmation in 3-4 days time. So fingers crossed I eventually get tickets.

Regards

I've not come across this business of 'delayed confirmation' before. Which site are you booking through?

'delayed confirmation'

It's https://www.irctc.co.in/. And I was a little shocked when I read this condition. For example I would like all of us to be in the same carriage but by selecting upper or lower berth I believe I have set yet another condition which is not that relevant to me . And I hope the whole booking does not fall foul of this particular detail.
I might book Mumbai - Goa tomorrow and might let you know the exact wording if I come across it again.

Please do. I've used IRCTC pretty regularly and never come across that. i can only think that it was triggered by ticking the 'same carriage' box. How big is your party?

Yes, it was triggered by the 'same carriage' box. And there is only three of us, so, I hope we should be accommodated, don't you think?

For three I would be inclined not to bother with the 'same carriage' box. There is a logic of sorts to the way seats are allocated . I think that they start at the centre of the coach and work towards the doors. In 1AC the three of you should have a decent chance of being in the same 4 berth compartment if you manage to get confirmed. In 2AC you need to go for inside berths as opposed to 'Side Berths'.

If you go for 2AC you will get berth numbers immediately (assuming that your booking is confirmed.). The plans on this post will show you where your berths should be. Indian railways carriage layout diagrams.
