Dormitories on stations and online-bookings
Hi everyone!
I heard that there are dormitories on stations of big cities. This can be easy if your train (sleeper class) arrives in middle of the night. I'll have this problem when I'm going to travel from Mumbai to Honnavar (Jog-falls). I'm travelling in the Monsoon. Is there a dormitory on this station? Are there people with better experiences to travel from Mumbai to the Jog-falls? Further, does anyone know if irctc.co.in is thoe only way to book tickets in advance? Because the prices differ between this site and the general informationsite indianrailways.gov.in. How's this possible? Thanks a lot!! |

All the railway sites have the option of booking your ticket.
All sites have the same price structure. The difference you have noticed could be the development surcharge and the reservation charge. The reservation charge varies as per the class you travel development surcharge has 2 slabs less than 500 km and more than 500 km.this charge varies with the class u travel Then you have superfast surcharge which varies with class. If you travel by Shatabdi or Rajdhani meals are included Confusing You Bet: ![]() Reg dormitory at Honnavar pl check www.konkanrailway.com this site will provide all the amenities avlbl at the station regards Last edited by brownboy66 : Jun 17th, 2008 at 12:44. If you mean is there a dorm. at Mumbai - yes.
But, these rooms often fill up quickly and I've never been able to get one when I've tried (Jaipur; Mumbai; Delhi). Cheers Zoltan

Thanks for both your information. I won't rely too much upon dormitories then. (and in Hannovar there isn't a dormitory, so thanks for the useful site! And about the ticket costs, a little bit confusing yes, but my conclusion is that it is normal to pay more at reservating-tickets-sites than as said by the indianrail.gov.in site. I already thought the train was very very very cheap indeed!
(but still.. in Holland we need to pay much more!) Thanks a lot! |

no, this was also our concern with arriving in the middle of the night at a foreign station. Well, we changed our trip a little bit so ensure we always arrive at daytime at the station.
Thanks! |
