Dear Nattusbs,

##The authorities have deployed Five Rakes to operate 2733/2734 SC-TPTY Narayanadri Express AND 2703/2704 Falaknuma Express.

##Since the day, you posted the above quoted message, I have made it a point to the check the HA1 coaches in all the Five Rakes.

##I have noted the number of HA1 Coach (**combo of IAC and IIAC) in Four Rakes. They are 00026, 00027, 98031 and 02031. I vaguely remember I have also seen HA1 Coach in the fifth rake.

##Once, I get this number I will get back to you.

##To the best of my knowledge, the IR is yet to produce the First AC-cum-3AC Combo Coaches.

##Ofcourse, we have 2AC-cum-3AC Coaches, which are coded as AB1 and so on.

Hi All,

Some friends are visiting next month and one of their trips will take them from Amritsar to Dharamsala. They plan to take the Kanga railway so will need to get to Pathankot from Amritsar.

I have seen this post from Steve: Train information (support thread)

Which suggests there are lots of trains on this route, but when I look on the indian railways info site or on IRCTC I can only get info for 2 trains (#9225 and #8101) both of which are already fairly heavily booked up for the AC cars. Has the situation changed since last year when the above post was last updated on this route, or am I doing something wrong when searching for services?

They will most likely be traveling on or around Nov 18th.

Thanks.

There is also the 4037 (Delhi - Pathankot Express) - this runs only on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays though. The AC Chair Car (Not an AC Sleeper) does show availability on most days. This train leaves Amritsar at 3:40 pm to reach Pathankot at 6 pm - this should probably appear on IRCTC if you select AC Chair Car (CC) for a Sun, Tue or Fri.

Some of the other trains mentioned are DMU or passenger trains which are fully unreserved and can get very crowded - as they have no reservation they do not appear on the IRCTC website

I had tried searching 'All Class' anyway and didn't pick that one up, but will have another look.

Thanks.

Dear Groovemeister,

4633/4634 Intercity Express runs daily between Amritsar and Pathankot, but you will NOT find this train, since this train doesn't carries reserved accomodation.

Train from Agra to Darjeeling

Hi There,

I haven't been to india for a couple of years and have lost my Indian Railway map so thought I would turn to good old India Mike for advice.

I'm planning to travel from Delhi to Agra, then Fatehpur Sikri. After Fatehpur i'm planning to move on to Darjeeling but would like advice on the best route to take to get there. I haven't written off a visit to Kolkata which would make finding a train to Darjeeling easier but I would also like some other options if you know of any?.

Regards,
Mark

Well, there is a direct train from Agra Fort Station (38 km from Fatehpur Sikri) to New Jalpaiguri (The railhead for Darjeeling), the 5631 Guwahati Express - This train leaves Agra Fort at 1-30 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and reaches New Jalpaiguri at 3-05 pm the next day; however, be warned that this train has a reputation for massive delays. Two other trains run as well (The 5635 Dwaraka Express on Saturdays and the 5667 Kamakhya Express on Sundays)- both leave again at 1-30 pm but are much slower and reach New Jalpaiguri at 9-55 and 10-20 pm respectively the next day - not the best time to arrive.

You may be thinking of this Indian Railways map (2001), included with Trains at a Glance: http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/maps/all_india.htm.

Try also http://samit.org/irmap/ (likewise 2001, it seems; he has a 2005 book edition, linked to there); click its various portions to open & further enlarge.

Hello Mark, nice to see you back.

Is there a reason to visit Agra & FS before Darjeeling? will you be coming back to Delhi via Varanasi? (if this is the case, it would be easier to visit Agra on the way back)

Are you hoping to take the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway to get to Darjeeling? (if so, the trains from Delhi/Agra don't connect well, you could consider taking the DHR on the way back from Darjeeling).

It's most likely that you'd be better to return to Delhi (from Agra) to catch the fast & comfortable Rajdhani Express to New Jalpaiguri (for access to Darjeeling).

Since you were last here, www.erail.in has really become a very user friendly website, have a search for trains from Agra to New Jalpaiguri, also from Delhi to New Jalpaiguri (and maybe New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling), you could also look at the timings of the Rajdhani and maybe try to get a train from Agra to a station along the route (Kanpur for example), but returning to Delhi maybe a better option, esp. if travelling December or Jan as fog may be a big problem in the north.

North East timetables

I can only find three timetables for the North East States. (62 / 66 / and 83)
In January I want to travel throughout the region but the fairly extensive routes shown on the maps do not appear to have any timetabled trains. How does one find out if there are local trains?

Hamish

For Local trains you can search in the erail.in site which has all the trains run by Indian Railways. Choose all station tab and type the city name or if you know station name or station code and click on route at number 3 to get all train list. Otherwise you will get a suggestion how to reach.

Usefull trains for tourists

Some trains not in 'Trains At A Glance'
Hi Steven, I've finally decided on 2 overnight train journeys, one from Jaipur - Jodhpur and one from Jodhpur - Delhi. I've booked via Cleartip to save time and I've got my etickets but I'm not sure when the seat allocation is done and when I will find out which seats we've been allocated. Can I check online somehow before we travel or is it just a case of turning up at the station and checking the list?

BTW, it's freezing in Newcastle, some of the girl in the Bigg Market are actually wearing shoes instead of sandals with their skimpy tops and shorts!!

The carriage & seat/berth details should be on the ticket unless you have booked First Class air con, in that case the carriage/berth details won't be known till a few hours before the train departs, if you have 1A tickets (unlikely JP to JU, but maybe JU too DLI) I will go into more detail later.

If you have 2-tier air con tickets, your carriage will be either HA1 or A1 or A2 followed by your seat/berth number, eg A1 35

If you have 3-tier air con tickets, your carriage will be either B1, B2 or B3 followed by your seat/berth number.

If you have non air con Sleeper Class tickets, your carriage will be either S1,S2 or anything up to S14 followed by your seat/berth number.

There may be another reason why you can't find your carriage/berth details, you could have a waitlisted ticket (or an RAC ticket), can you see anything like the following on the ticket?

RAC 6/RAC 2
RAC 4/CNF
WL 12/WL 9
WL 8/RAC 2
WL 6/CNF
