Has the Hampi Express been suspended? The only alternative I see is the Hubli Passr (583) which takes 15 hours, arriving at 1 pm the next day... I could do this (grumbling) but the overnight Hampi Express sounded much more convenient. Anyone have info on the trains from Bangalore to Hampi/Hospet?? Thanks so much.
Hampi Express is very much there.. I'm surprised why you did not get in cleartrip.com. I just tried clear trip and got only one option, that is Hampi Express...

try irctc.co.in...

Have a look also at http://erail.in. An unofficial site, mind, so you should revert to the official site to check; and booking you'll have to do at http://irctc.co.in anyway.

The official Railways site goes down for a bit at Indian nighttime btw for backups or maintenance (and like all sites will otherwise go through its glitches), just try again later if this happens.

Getting from kolkata to Gaya

Maybe I am stupid, but please help me. I find the Indian Railways information so confusing.
I am arriving by air in Kolkata at 10 30 a.m on December 5th this year. I need to get to Bodhgaya as quickly.I believe that I must go to Gaya and get taxi transport from there.I will be arriving too late for the early morning trains and I do not wat to travel at night, if possible and I would rather not arrive in Gaya too late.
Can anyone suggest a train for me. I would prefer 1st class AC as I am elderly and traveling alone. Can anyone tell me if it is m possible for me to book a ticket outside of India, i.e by Internet or agency? I would be so grateful for any help.
Thanks
Kevin

Your queries are already being answered on the other thread, Train Varanasi-Gaya-Calcutta dangerous?

Please don't double-post your queries, it just gets confusing to everyone.

For train bookings btw, from abroad as well which is indeed possible, you need to go to http://www.irctc.co.in/ (and as mentioned just above here I see now, and probably numerous times on this thread). This can be a little daunting to use yes, but it is what you'll need. Find some instructions on how to go about it e.g. here: Booking rail tickets from abroad- a Beginner's Guide and here: Nuts & Bolts of online registration for railway ticket booking.; keep a note of posting dates, some of that info may be outdated by now.

(Those are all "sticky" threads in the Indian Railways (sub-) forum you're in; threads "stuck" on top of a given forum so they'll always remain there. You may find a few others of those instructive.)

Kevin,

Please have a look at the trains which meet your criteria of no overnight journey.

3151 JAMMU TAWI EXP P KOAA 11.45 GAYA 20.58 09.13
2313 SDAH RAJDHANIEX P SDAH 16.40 GAYA 22.37 05.57
2301 CAL RAJDHANI P HWH 16.45 GAYA 22.19 05.34

It would be impossible for you to catch the first train. You can take either 2313 or 2301. It will leave you in Gaya at 2220 hrs or 2237 hrs and then you can drive down. I dont think you would have any better option.

See the seat availability of them. Both are Rajdhanis which is the best train of Indian Railways. They have 1AC as well.

Quota for Gaya in 1AC is 1 seat in 2313 and 2 seats in 2301. Suggest you book in 2301 as you would reach at 22.19 hrs.

tickets can be booked through internet at http://irctc.co.in/. You need to register yourself and book the tickets with your credit card. only requirement is that the credit cards should have extra authorisation.

Can I have an informed opinion please?

I know Indian trains get booked up weeks in advance, but planning a tight schedule, booked in advance, does not fit my needs, i.e needing to stay longer than I thought or less than I thought in a certain place. So I would like more flexibility. Given my schedule, what of my chances of getting seats at short notice? is it easier to get A1 sleepers, for example? Would there usually be some kind of seat for me on a train?

This is my route. (it contains a gap, since I don't know how to get from Garda to kalkata, yet

My route
Kolkata, to Gaya (Bodhgaya by Road) (6th to 13)
Gaya to Rajgir ( Nalanda by road) (13 to 17)
Rajgir Rajgir Veranasi (Saranath by road) (17 18)
Rajgir to Gorakpur (shrinigar.by road) (19 21)
Goragput to Lumpini (Nepal) 22 25
Lumbini Goraour (26)
Goragpur to Gonda. (Sravasti) 27 29
Gornda to Kolkata by shortest route. 30 31st

What do you experienced travelers think?

Trains

Hi, what train would you recommend from Kolkata to Varanasi, overnight, and from Varanasi to Agra, overnight, and from Agra to Varanasi, overnight, from Varanasi to close to Nepalese border, and back to Varanasi, then from Varanasi back to Kolkata.

Could you tell me the exact train stations and codes etc so it is easier to book the e tickets.

Could i pick up all the tickets from the Red Shield Sally Army Hostel in Sudder Streeet, or do i take my printed out tickets to the train station only to get my berths?

thanx for your help in advance.

Delhi/Agra to Anjuna, Goa

Hi

My partner and I are going to India 10/12/09 to 10/01/09.
We want to travel from Delhi to Anjuna, Goa on 20/12/09 and from Anjuma to Mumbai on 06/01/09.

Would be flexible about where to get traing from down to Goa but have read up about it and am struggeling to find the right train.

What would be the nearest train station in Goa to where we want to be and what would be the best train to get. Don't mind paying more to get the quickest one.

Have been told might be better to get train from Agra rather than Delhi but don't mind either way as long as we get the right one booked. It'd be a massive help if you know! We want to book it straight away.

Cheers x

You should be searching for Madgaon or Vasco. try logging into irctc.co.in and search new delhi to these stations. The fastest train is 2432 which would take aout 28 hrs from New Delhi but runs only three days a week.

The best idea would be to take any of Rajdhani 2952 or 2954 to Mumbai which would be about 17 hrs.

The best one would be to take a direct flight to Goa airport from Delhi.

Select the Payment Gateway of any Indian bank.eg Select ICICI bank Credit or Debit Card Gateway. Through Gateway you can use card issued in any country. Else try booking at makemytrip.com or cleartrip.com etc

Hi there

Having succesfully booked a ticket from Bangalore to Mysore, I'm having no luck at all with the other parts of my journey - irtc keeps telling me there are no trains and I know they're WRONG! What am I doing wrong? This is what I want to do:

14 Nov Kannur to Udupi
16 Nov Udupi to Madgaon (should that be Margaon?)
20 Nov Margaon or Vasco da Gama to Hospet (it's a Friday so the train should be running)
23 Nov Hospet to Bangalore

I'm not too bothered about pre-booking the Kannur/Udupi and Udupi/Margaon because there should be plenty of buses or trains doing those routes, but I think i do need to pre-book the Goa/Hospet and Hospet/Bangalore sectors.

Help!

What class are you looking at?If you are looking at 1AC or 2S or CC you would get that error.Otherwise you should not get an such error.
