Hi Steven and others, I have been trying to get train availability from New Jalpaiguri all the way through to Bhubaneswar, preferably arriving in the morning. I note that there are at least 4 non daily options (2508, 2510, 2514, 2516) but all come up with a "Not Available" message. Just wondering if anyone knows if these trains are still running or of a way to check?
My other option is going via Sealdah and changing to Howrah for Bhubaneswar (Puri) but I would prefer less hassle if I can as the train timings aren't perfect and I will be travelling with my wife and 3 kids. I won't be booking anything just yet as I will be travelling in November but am just trying to see what's possible to do.
Thanks again for any advice.

Hi,

May I have two questions?

In few days we'll be travelling from Agra to Khajuraho. We want to leave Agra in the evening. Is there an overnight train? In fact we don't really mind changing trains in Jhansi.. as we even wanted to see Orchia but on the other hand we can skip it, as unfortunately we are kind of in a rush.

Secondly... We need to get from Varanasi to Manali to continue to Leh. I know there was this train from Varanasi to Armitsar (it takes 24h) so we could see The Golden Temple but then the way from Armitsar to Manali seems to be too long and would make much sense to go all the way around.. Should we rather skip Armitsar and get off in Chandigarh?

Thanks in advance,

G

I'm far from the best at interpreting these search results, but http://erail.in?T=NJP:New_Jalpaiguri...BS:Bhubaneswar would seem to suggest possibilities NJP-BBS alright, including those you mention.

Is it possible you're looking at a period too far ahead to come up with results? (Or, conversely, looking at very near dates, which may all be full, so showing up as unavailable?) Anyway, others will no doubt be in to confirm or clarify this.

Many trains have booking restrictions to prevent shorter distance passengers booking all (or some of) the berths.

I've tried many combinations of stations, and the only way to book from New Jalpaiguri is to book to Vijayawada, there is a low number of berths allowed for that sector, so book early.

Booking Guwahati to Vijayawada is the only way to get a larger number of berths, you could then take the ticket to a reservation office and change the boarding station to New Jalpaiguri.

Guwahati-Vishakhapatnam (shorter than to Vijayawada) has a tiny number of berths.

Train 2448 departs Agra Cant at 00.25 and gets to Khajuraho at 07.50.

This train departs at 00:25 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, so think carefully about the date when booking and planning.

The Golden Temple is just out of this world, the atmosphere around the temple, the museum, the history, all make is one of the absolute must sees in India. (no smoking in or anywhere near the temple)

Varanasi-Amritsar trains.

However, India is full of such places, and if time is a problem, Amritsar is a long diversion.

Getting a train from Varanasi to Ambala, then a train/bus to Chandigarh may be the best option.

Varanasi-Ambala trains.

(Chandigarh is said to be a good city to look around)

##Steven had answered your query to a large extent.

##Please look at this:
------
2514 GHY SC EXPRESS 8-10-2009 GUWAHATI VISHAKAPATNAM GENERAL
S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - SL Class -3A
1 8-10-2009 AVAILABLE- 0022 NOT AVAILABLE
.............................. ...................
2510 GHY-SBC-EXPRESS 6-10-2009 GUWAHATI VISHAKAPATNAM GENERAL

.............................. ..................
2508 GHY ERS EXPRESS 2-10-2009 GUWAHATI VISHAKAPATNAM GENERAL
S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - SL Class -3A
1 2-10-2009 NOT AVAILABLE WL 11/WL 6
2 9-10-2009 AVAILABLE- 0019 WL 1/WL 1

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - SL Class -3A

============================== =================

##All put together, the 2508 (weekly)/2510 (tri-weekly)/2514 (weekly)/2516 (weekly), provide 6 days service to Visakhapatnam. You need to book the ticket upto VSKP and get down in BBS.

##However, on every Thursday, there is a train to Puri, in which you can book tickets upto BBS. Please look at this:
--

just one more question...

We'll be in Agra on Tuesday, visiting the entire day... leaving Agra Tuesday night.

Does "00:25 on Wednesday" means that the train leaves Agra Tuesday night (because 0025 is already on Wednesday) or does it actually leave on Wednesday to Thursday night?

It would be 25mins after midnight of the Tues. night and is the start of Wednesday morning I should think. So if you are in Agra for Tuesday, that same evening very late you will catch this train.

Delhi - Haridwar - Agra - Delhi

Hi, we're a German group of uni graduates and we are planning a round trip and need some information on trains.

Our journey begins in Delhi, then we need a train to Haridwar. After a few days we would like to go from Haridwar straight to Agra (is there a direct rail connection?) and then from Agra back to Delhi.
For all that we have a max of 7 days.

Can anybody help?!

Varanasi to Haridwar by train

I would like to take an AC 1st class train from Varanasi to Haridwar on or around 6th of August (I can be flexible with dates).

I have noticed there is information regarding this route on the website but it was posted a while ago and I was wondering whether it was still relevant or are there now any better / faster routes.

Are buses from Haridwar to Rishikesh straightforward or would I need to plan in advance? is it safe for a lone traveller? It's my first time in India and I'm not sure what to expect...

can you help please?

Thank you so much lovely India Mike helpful advisors

Dear Sheridia,

##I am afraid there is no train between Varanasi and Haridwar that provides IAC Accomodation; hence, you can book in 2AC Coach.

##It would be fine, if you can take 4265 Varanasi-Dehradun Express which runs daily. The advantage in this train is that it originates in Varanasi itself.

##Please look at 2AC and 3AC availability by this train:
----
4265 BSB DDN EXP 31-7-2009 VARANASI JN HARIDWAR JN GENERAL
S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 2A Class -3A
1 31- 7-2009 AVAILABLE- 0001 AVAILABLE- 0005
2 1- 8-2009 RAC 3/RAC 3 AVAILABLE- 0009
3 2- 8-2009 AVAILABLE- 0005 AVAILABLE- 0007
4 3- 8-2009 AVAILABLE- 0005 AVAILABLE- 0009
5 4- 8-2009 AVAILABLE- 0005 AVAILABLE- 0010
6 5- 8-2009 AVAILABLE- 0003 AVAILABLE- 0010
-----------------------
4265 BSB DDN EXP 6-8-2009 VARANASI JN HARIDWAR JN GENERAL
S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 2A Class -3A
1 6- 8-2009 RAC 2/RAC 2 AVAILABLE- 0010
2 7- 8-2009 AVAILABLE- 0003 RAC 1/RAC 1
3 8- 8-2009 AVAILABLE- 0001 AVAILABLE- 0004
4 9- 8-2009 AVAILABLE- 0004 RAC 3/RAC 3

Do you know if there are any tour type trains which run from mumbai to agra then eventually come back to mumbai? If there are stops in between that would be great just so long as agra is on the itinerary ?

I dont see any rail package (authorised by Indian Railways) in this route.
