I had similar problems yesterday, 2 trains I checked said they no longer ran after the 1st April, yet today it's back to normal.

Indian Railways never did understand the April fools jokes.

yes Ravi, that is a correct non-standard circular journey. Was that a question or you were informing someone?

Delhi to Shimla Train

Hi,
I need to travel from Delhi to Shimla next week. I have read about the Shatabdi train that leaves at 07.40 and arrives at 12.00 in Kalka and then the connection is the Toy Train. When I try and look up NDLS to KLK all I get is a 21.40 train that arrives at Kalka at 04.40...
Also I cannot seem to be able to find the connecting train to Shimla.
Please can yuo help - thanks

Kalka Shatabdi leaving NDLS 7:40 has Class 1A and CC only. May be your searching was for other class. Try again.

train schedules (agra to delhi)

i just have a quick question regarding travel from agra to delhi. i will be taking the 6am shatabdi train from delhi to agra and would like to be back in delhi by 7pm on the same day at the latest. from what i have read, the shatabdi train back to delhi leaves agra at 830pm. what other transport options would you suggest? are there trains that are similar to the shatabdi that leave agra in the late afternoon?

thanks in advance!

No.

The Shatabdi and the Taj Express are short distance reliable trains.

Other trains may have started their journey thousands of kms away and may well be hours late.

Have a look at www.erail.in

Search for Agra to Delhi trains, then click on 'Dep' or 'Arr' (above the train times) to arrange the trains in different ways. (remember to check what day of the week the train runs).

To find out where the train starts it's journey, look on the blue line in the centre of the page, next to the number 7 you'll see a place to enter the train number, then you can view the full route.

I was wondering if I could get a little advice on Konan railway.

In August we'll be travelling from Mumbai down to Cochin.

We'd like to make the journey in a large part for the pleasure of the scenery so would like to do at least the most scenic stretches during daylight. Was wondering if it might be sensible to do this by breaking the journey somewhere in Goa? Been trying to work out which trains would be best for doing this, and where would be a good place to break the journey. Or if there's a good way of doing it all in one go.

Also I've heard some people say that the windows in ac class can spoil the views, but equally I'm not sure we could hack two whole days in sleeper class, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would say you're best to just get the Netravati Express from Lokmanya Tilak (Mumbai) all the way to Eranakulam Jn (for Cochin). (26 hours)

http://erail.in?T=CSTM:Chatrapati_Shi vaji Terminus Mumbai:ERS:Ernakulam_Jn.

It covers a lot of the scenic sections during the day.

The windows in AC vary a lot, and sometimes you can even get clear windows on new carriages, though there's not much chance of new carriages on the Netravati.

But even when they have a slight tint, you can still see through them, you just see things in a slightly different colour.

Best option is to try to open the outside carriage door, then sit with your back against the door and watch the world go by.

AC should be preferable but if you have already travelled by Sleeper you can try it out once more especially if you plan to take an overnight train.

However it would be difficult to get a confirmed booking in either if the journey is on a weekend.

A good reminder every so often: Those (heavy) doors can and will swing shut, on corners or when the train tilts to one side etc. Sitting with your side against them will also do the trick; in any case, don't sit with your back towards them unguarded & let them push you out. See also at the bottom of this page for some simple precautions on the art of "doorway travel": http://www.indax.com/traintps.html .

nb One hears opening the doors in the higher classes may be disallowed (some cranky conductor or cop may walk by and close them); if this is the case, you could walk over to Sleeper Class to sit there, where it's still pretty common.

Sadly, those links don't "stick"; they don't follow a format that can be copied. So I guess one can only go through the somewhat involved process of describing how to get at those pages, alas.

I see now they do actually work, it's just that some blank spaces somehow slip in sometimes when you copy them. Should work alright if you remove those:
