Train from Patiala, Punjab to Delhi

Hi!
I found out that there is a train called Intercity that runs between Patiala and Delhi. I would like to know if the station that it comes to in Delhi is Nizamuddin station. Also, I was told that it leaves Patiala at 7:30 am. and comes to Delhi at 11:30 a.m.
Can somebody confirm this information?
Thanks for your help

Theon, the class in the photo is 2nd class unreserved, the cheapest of all classes.

Detailed information including photos of the above classes of accommodation

Knowing the Indian Train. An excellent thread by beach explaining all you need to know about Indian trains.

Jasglo

The following trains run between Patiala & Delhi.

Train 4732 departs Patiala daily at 07:47 and gets to New Delhi at 12:45. The train has Air conditioned Chair class (CC) and 2nd class unreserved (II).

Train 4522 departs Patiala (not Sa, Su.) at 10:07 and gets to New Delhi at 14:35. (CC, II) (this train is the Intercity)

Train 1058 departs Patiala daily at 14:00 and gets to New Delhi at 20:05. (2A, 3A, SL, II) This train then calls at Nizamuddin at 20:59 before going all the way to Dadar (Mumbai).

Posts 12 & 13 on the following thread cover trains between Udaipur and Ahmedabad then Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

Train from Patiala to Delhi

Hello Steven,
Thank you for your reply. I am not sure if I am asking the right question when I ask if the trains that you suggested 4522 and 4732 go to the Nizamuddin railway station. If not which railway station in Delhi do they come to since there are three in total I believe. Perhaps you did the New Delhi railway station as you did say they come to New Delhi.
Thanks for your help

Trains 4522 and 4732 both terminate at New Delhi train station and neither stop at any of the other major train stations in Delhi.

There are regular local trains that connect New Delhi train station and Nizamuddin train stations.

estimating lateness

Does IR keep any data on punctuality for each route? I'm trying to decide whether a close connection is worth risking or if I should look for an alternative way to get to Guntakal.

Hospet-Guntakal JN 16:05-18:40 connecting to
Guntakal JN-Chennai 19:00-05:35
The first train arrives from Vasco and the connecting train arrives from Bombay. The train from Bombay arrives at the station at 18:30 and waits for 30 min before leaving.

If this is not a good plan, does anyone have suggestions for going to Chennai from Hospet? (actually Kanchipuram is the real destination - I won't spend any time in Chennai).

Krishnika,

In my opinion, its not worth the risk. It would have been worth if both the trains are on time, or if the train from Vasco is on time and the train from Mumbai is late, but nobody can guarantee either!!

You can do Hospet-Guntakal by Haripriya Express, 22:45 - 01=00 and Guntakal-Chennai by CSTM Chennai Express, 06:50 - 16=45. This involves a long wait at Guntakal at an odd hour, but will certainly be better than missing a connection.

are railway stations safe at night?

I saw that option on the rail website, but was concerned about hanging out in a railway junction in the middle of the night in a town (is it a town or just a railway junction?) that has not been described in any guidebook I've seen. Do you think this is safe? We are traveling as a couple. What about taking a bus there from Hospet earlier in the day? I haven't found any info on this possibility. I suppose a taxi is an option, although if it is not a usual route for the drivers maybe it would be hard to negociate? What about estimating road travel time. The rail distance is 116 km, which I assume would be about the same by road, but I don't know how long this might take.

An alternative way from Hospet to Chennai would be the following trains: -

Hospet - Bangalore City

Train 6591, Hospet 20:00, Guntakal 22:30 (departs 23:00), Bangalore City 06:30 (1A, 2A, SL.)

This train has 30 minutes added to the end of the journey to 'help' it arrive 'on time'. (if 'on-time' it should arrive at 06:00)

Bangalore City to Chennai

Train 6524, Bangalore City 08:00, Chennai Central 14:45. (CC, 2S.)

This option should give you 2 hours to play with, it should be enough.

Thanks Steven, I hadn't thought of going through Bangalore. This seems like the best way to go.

Hi Nix

Is there a reason why you cant book ahead?

You would be best to, It is always good to know you have your first ticket booked, have it sent to the hotel in Mumbai where you will be staying.

I doubt the trains are less busy on Christmas day, though that is only a guess.
