Jolsa- If you can't find the TTE on Cancona station, just board the train since the train stops only for a couple of minutes... There is a good chance that the TTE will come to check your ticket only after Madgaon anyway.

What you need to do is buy a '2nd class express' ticket from the ticket office at Canacona station, it should open before the train arrives, if it doesn't, explain this to the TTE (ticket man) on the train, you may still have to pay extra on the train, it depends on the class, though you're unlikely to see the TTE before Madgaon. There's a chance you won't be able to use your seat/berth till Madgaon, there may be a different quota for Kerala-Goa passengers (I can't check now), and someone else may be booked till Madgaon. The Auto drivers are going to skin you alive, they don't like getting out of bed early as they're all so bloody spoilt by us tourists, we had to pay Rs150 from Palolem, and that was for a 06:30 departure, if you're going from Palolem you'll have to arrange an auto the night before as theye's none about in the early hours. We were astonished to find how close the station was, maybe 2kms. |

Steve- Is it really that close (2km) to the station? I was wondering if you could walk to it with a backpack... I'm planning to catch the 5AM train (or the 8PM) from Cancona in a month or so

Certainly not 3kms, though maybe a bit more than 2, but finding the way may be difficult.

Thanks all for your replies. Steve - hear you on the auto price. I arrived at Cancona early morning a few days ago and the drivers were quoting Rs.150-250 for a ride to Agonda. I managed to get it for Rs.100 what with sharing the auto with a local on the way.
Have been quoted Rs.200-250 for Agonda to Cancona (early Sunday morning) by various people, which I'll just have to pay seeing as though I need to get to the station Does seem like quite a lot for the short journey though. |

anubrata- you can try trainenquiry.com (i couldn't find the current train status without its number)
From past experience on Delhi-Kolkata route, superfast trains (and yours does seem to be since it takes 22 hrs) are not late by more than an hour or so. Do you have a connection to make? |

Our booking on the 5th hasn't cleared (still WL 3 and 4).
Can anyone tell me exactly when the Tatkal tickets become available? The web site says you can book 5 days ahead, but is that time of departure minus 120 hours? Or is it some time on the 5th day before the day of travel? Or something else? Thanks |

pteron-It is 8AM, 5 days before the departure of the train... So for Apr-5th tatkal ticket you need to book starting Mar 31st at 8AM. I'm assuming that you are travelling from the originating station (tatkal has to be booked for the full journey of the train)

Train Suspended : Dba Administrator
I'm booked in 2A on the 19/4 4312 ALA HAZRAT EXP
For some reason I just checked the train details and it says 'TRAIN SUSPENDED : DBA ADMINISTRATOR' which seems common for 19/4. Is it likely that the train will ever become unsuspended or do I need to look for alternative travel arrangements? A few minutes later... It gets worse, so is my 5716 GARIB NAWAJ EXP from Jaipur to Alwar on the 16th. And my 2955 BCP JP EXPRESS from Sawai Madhopur to Jaipur on the 16th isn't even listed. What's going on? UPDATE: 8 hours later: I've checked all the trains again and them seen to be okay now. IRCTC's site is back up now and I've checked my PNR status for each and all seems well there too. Perhaps it was all a bad dream? Last edited by OceanTragic : Mar 27th, 2009 at 13:42. Reason: Checked PNR status and availability; this time in irctc.co.in which is now up and running |
