Hello Balaji !
You are trying to cram too much into 15 days, as a result of which you'll be travelling more than sight-seeing. I suggest the following: 1. You drop Mussoorie and Nainital. 2. Spend time in Himachal Pradesh. 3. One night halt at Agra is enough. Delhi - 2 days Agra and Fatehpur Sikri - 2 days Shimla - 3 days Kullu, Manali - 4 days Dharamsala - 3 days. If you are bent on covering M & N in the same trip, then there's a road from Dehradun to Shimla(245 kms.) via Herbertpur, Nahan and Solan. All the best !

SHIMLA,
Thanks for your useful suggestion and immediate reply. Delhi to Kalka by Kalka express, followed by Kalka-Shimla express and return to Delhi from Pathankot by Jammu mail - will this be a good route by train? I find many places to see in and around Kullu/Manali/Dharamsala/Pathankot and as I am not sure about the local transportation, Can we manage the sight seeing by ourselves in a local bus or do we need to arrange for a cab or local travels? One more important question: Will the 1st week of October be fine for these places? Thanks again, Balaji |

From Delhi to Kalka by the Kalka Mail and from Kalka to Shimla by the Shivalik Deluxe express is just fine. So is the journey from Pathankot to Delhi by Jammu Mail. You should also try to travel by the mountain railway from Kangra to Pathankot. There are plenty of State Govt. buses covering the routes : Shimla - Kullu - Manali and then Manali - Mandi - Dharamsala. Himachal Tourism's deluxe coaches run point to point, like Delhi to Shimla/Manali; Shimla to Manali and Shimla to Dharamsala, in season. If you are a group of 4, you may also consider hiring a vehicle(private taxi) in Himachal, but you will be charged from your starting point(say Shimla) to the same point(return to Shimla). This may prove a bit expensive, as you won't be returning to Shimla but will be exiting from Pathankot. The first week of October will be just perfect for the Himachal trip. However, if you can delay the same by three weeks so as to be in Kullu on October 22, you can witness the Dussehra celebrations, which begin at Kullu on Dussehra day and continue for 9 days more ! Steven, Apologies for hijacking this "train information" thread; I get carried away when writing on H.P. !! ![]() Last edited by SHIMLA : Aug 28th, 2004 at 14:56. Reason: spelling error ! |

I was as surprised as you are, to have discovered a passenger train on the IR website! The only other passenger train which I have seen listed on the IR site is some train in Gujarat, forget where exactly. There seems to be no logic behind the inclusion of a few passenger trains and the exclusion of many!! Regarding the delay of train no. 329, its quite possible that it may be held up on single line sections for crossings or for giving right of way to Expresses and Superfasts. |

Goa to Mysore - best connections
Hi
I've asked about this before - but I'll ask again. I want to travel to Mysore from Goa by train. This will involve a connection in either Londa or Hubli, the problem is though that I can't find a decent connection that avoids an overnight wait. If anyone has any advice for me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks Matthew |

shohamelad. There are lots of trains from Jaipur to Delhi at various times of the day, 2-tier or 3-tier air-conditioned carriages are generally available, as are non air con Sleeper carriages, there are air-con Chair Cars available on some trains as well. (Journey time 5.5 - 7 hours) Click here for some trains. (Scroll down as there are 2 pages). There are overnight trains on the broad gauge route between Jaipur and Delhi, but the journey time is short, there is a better overnight option on the slower Metre Gauge route. Train 9734 departs Jaipur daily at 18:05 and gets to Delhi (Sarai Rohilla) at 05:40 the next morning; the train has First Class air con, 2-tier air con, and Sleeper class. |

Quick one: If buying tickets at the tourist's desk at New Delhi, can I purchase for other people as well as myself?
I'd like to assume I can but last time I had to show my passport etc so I wasn't sure (as I won't have my friends passport with me). Thanks for any help ![]() |

Guerik.
You'll need the passports of all your friends if you want to book tickets at the tourist cell in New Delhi. However if you go just up the road to the booking center at Chelmsford Road you can book your tickets there without any passports. When you come off the main bazzaar Paharganj you'll see the New Delhi train station in front of you, turn right on the main raod and the ticket office is about 200 meters down the road on the left!! It's just as quick/slow as the tourist cell!! Happy traveling ![]() |

booking possible But..
Guerik,
You will not get seats from "foreign tourist quota" when you book ticket 'w/o passport' at the general reservation counters.. This link will give you more info on special facilities for Foreign tourists (including NRIs) http://www.indianrail.gov.in/intert.html Last edited by ashish0608 : Oct 14th, 2004 at 13:44. I don't really mind if I don't get tickets from the foreign quota, but one of the trains is for the same day my friend arrives so I'd rather do it in advance. Could I book the tickets online and pick them up, even if one is not in my name (but the others would be, and they'd be booked on my credit card)?
Also is it possible to book tickets for more than one trip at once using the IRCTC online booking? |

Trains from Goa to Punjab, Patiala
Hi!
Just joined your forums and am most impressed by the information availabe here. Do you have information on the train trip from Goa to Punjab? e.g name of the train, duration, fares etc. I would also really appreciate information on trains from Goa to Delhi. What I am trying to do is plan a trip from Patiala, Punjab to Goa and then from Goa to Agra and Rajasthan. I have a friend with me who needs to fly back from Delhi, hence the need for the train info from Goa to Delhi in case we did Goa later and Rajasthan first. I would appreciate any information. :-) |

Patiala to Goa is probably best served via New Delhi. There are lots of trains tha run between Patiala and New Delhi
Here is one of them 1058 ASR DR EXPRESS *PATIALA 14:00 NEW DELHI 20:05 Travel time about 6 hours From New Delhi there are 3-4 trains that do the Goa run here they are!! 2432 TRIVNDRM RJDHNI H NIZAMUDDIN 11:00 MADGAON 12:25 2450 GOA SMPRK K EXP H NIZAMUDDIN 07:25 MADGAON 13:15 2618 MNGLA LKSDP EXP H NIZAMUDDIN 09:50 MADGAON 19:35 2780 GOA EXPRESS H NIZAMUDDIN 15:00 MADGAON 06:03 Travel time between 26-40 hours depending on the train Rajdhani exp = fastest Goa express = slowest All of these trains pass through Agra so any of them are an option on the way back for a visit to Agra. There are also trains leaving Goa which stop in southern Rajasthan Kota to be exact this train continues to Jaipur 2977 MARU SAGAR EXP *MADGAON 10:35 KOTA JN 10:10 Travel time 24 hours fare 2nd sleeper 465 rps (runs on a monday) Or to Jodhpur 6312 JODHPUR EXPRESS *MADGAON 10:35 JODHPUR JN 18:10 Travel time 30 hours fare 2nd sleeper 440 rps (runs on a sunday) The fares from Delhi to Patiala based on 2nd class sleeper is 140 Rupees The other fares I can't help you with as the system won't give me the fare for Madgao Hope this helps!! N.B. Ther Rajdhani exp runs on a seperate fare system and is a lot more expensive with AC class only they are FAST though!!!!!! Happy Traveling ![]() |

Yeah you could book tickets for others (upto 6 passengers) online. You can also book tickets for more than one trip, you just have to stick around at the same address cos they wld all be couriered to the address you registered with. Btw the facility to collect your tickets (online booking) is available at Delhi only as of now. |
