Gitanjali Exp (12860), Howrah 13:50, Wardha Jn 08:32, 18th October RAC 5&6 in 2AC, these will get confirmed.
Puri-Adi Exp (12843), Wardha Jn 15:54, Ahmedabad 07:25, 19th October 2 available in 2AC
If the 1st train is on time (and it's the best train on that route, so should arrive close to time), Gandhi had an Ashram at Wardha, got to be worth a look for a couple of hours.
I could maybe find a connection at Bhusaval, and if you allowed half a day in the area (and the train times worked out), you could visit Ajanta Caves.

Hi Steven,
I've just booked the howrah - wardha - ahmedabad tix. wardha is better than bhusaval since gandhi ashram would be nice to visit and we are already visiting ajanta on the way out to kolkata. can one be sure that the racs will be confirmed however? thanks for all your help.
also, since both you and dave are in the british isles, could i ask a question about train travel there as well?
thanks again.

Leeds.

My home town. HH The Dalai Lama recently went there to visit IMer Kullukid.
I would say that train is best (but I would say that
). There are hourly trains (sometimes even more frequent) from Kings Cross Station. If you haven't got tons of luggage you can take the Underground from Heathrow to Kings Cross. Make sure that you get a seat its a long trip into the city. The train operator from Kings Cross to Leeds is East Coast

There are good savings for buying tickets in advance.

edit - oops, sorry Dave, replying at the same time, I thought East Coast had lost the contract, don't know where I heard that.
I first looked for a connection at Bhusaval, then realised both trains also passed Wardha, and as you were going to Gujarat I thought of Gandhi's Ashram, so I'm happy the trains work out well, and the RAC should confirm, I'd be very surprised if they didn't, more than likely they will confirm before the travel date, but if not, they will when the unsold quotas are released 4 hours before the train departs.
There's no hurry to cancel, and no advantage to cancel early, and do remember, another indiamiker may come with a better suggestion for trains, and maybe direct to Jamnagar.
To Leeds (I've not much idea about trains in England)
The trains from Kings Cross to Leeds are really fast, a few years ago they were doing the journey in about 2.5 hours, and the lines been upgraded since, the Piccadilly line runs direct from Heathrow to Kings Cross in about an hour.
Book the Kings Cross-Leeds train in advance, I think it works out a lot cheaper.

Thanks, again, to both of you! (I seem to be saying this a fair bit lately.) I agree that trains are better, even though i would not consider myself an enthusiast
will look into booking early and thanks for the info regarding the underground as well. we will have a fair bit of luggage, but not unmanageable, and i think since we will be starting from heathrow, we should be able to get seats.
will keep you updated on our india train travels as well.
again, thank you so much!!!

Hello again,
just when i thought we had it all sorted out, up pops another problem. i am trying to reserve tickets on the train from jamnagar to mumbai of nov. 26th (reaching mumbai on nov. 27th) irctc shows the dates as open for reservtion, however, when i click on the button to see the availability of seats, an error message pops up - "the dates given were outside ARP" - any idea what that means and what I can do about it? I have to get these tickets, otherwise I will miss my flight back!
thanks

Not all trains have an ARP of 120 days. Some trains have an ARP of 30, some of 60 days. Check what the ARP is first and then try booking the tickets. I think it would be a lesser ARP, so you could book those tickets later.

There is no list of ARP's for trains. You will have to check for 30, 60 days and so on.
You can do that on www.erail.in, www.indiarailinfo.com
My mistake on the earlier post. You are booking tickets for 26th November. You can book them tomorrow. 26th November is more than 120 days from today. I did a boo-boo.

the interesting thing is that there are 4 trains listed, three of which give the "
utside ARP" message, but one that allows bookings for Nov. 26th! any thoughts?
thanks for your help, aarosh. will try again tomorrow and hope for the best.
