BTW- This may have been previously covered. But on Cleartrip when I click on the train it shows available and then next to it a number in parenthesis. Any idea what that number is??
thanks again.

That number tells you how many berths/seats are still available.
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

hello all,
have been trying to get registered with irctc (using the procedure outlined in www.seat61.com). got my email confirmation. did not get a mobile confirmation (as i do not have an indian mobile number). sent them several emails, and have not heard from them at all, not even an automated reply. What can I do? any thoughts/help would be appreciated. Until i get registered, I cannot book tickets, and I think this step is necessary even to book tickets through cleartrip. help!!

Thanks again, Dave. I did call them and they were very helpful. I now have a ticket number and a promise that I should be receiving my OTP within 24 hours. the number - +91 113 934 0000 works like a charm.

Travelling First AC with an Infant

Hello All,

I'm planning to travel from Coimbatore to Pune on Lokmanya Tilak Express(11014) in First AC.
I'd be traveling with my 6-month old baby..
Its a 22-hr journey and i'm not sure if how AC would affect my baby when traveling for such a long period.

I'd like to know if there would be an option to regulate the AC temperature within coupe .

Thanks in Advance..

I am having the same issue, lots of back and forth with unclear directions, just sent a scan of my passport (after not being able to reply to their email- error message something to the effect that email address was invalid, though the same one worked this morning) we'll see fingers crossed

There is an option to adjust the temperature, just ask the TTE how to, I've not tried it myself.

One thing to be careful about, the difference in temperature between the inside of the cabins (air con) and the walkway outside the cabins (non AC) is big, and in my opinion, it's a dangerous contrast.

I traveled 2 x 12 hour+ journeys in 1AC with a 7-month old baby, and I took her for a walk down the train, when I re-entered the 1AC cabin it felt freezing cold, I knew I couldn't take her out of the cabin again.

On the return journey, we stayed inside the cabin for the whole trip and it was perfect.

If you're traveling with another adult (as well as the baby), go to Coimbatore station before 4pm the day before the train and speak to the reservation supervisor, tell him you want to apply for the 2-berth coupe (there's only 1 on this train) and explain that you'll have a baby with you, I did this and got the coupe, if you are travelling alone (with the baby) and the train still has availability in 1AC, still try to apply for the coupe, you never know, you may get lucky.
.

Help to understand this

We have booked the Ali Jat express from Gurgaon to Chakki Bank. We got class 2A and were assigned A1/ 38/ - upper berth, A1/40 upper, and A1/41 and 42 both SIDE berths. WHat does this mean? Are these okay seats? Should we try again?

Is there a way to begin to understand the seating and cars and berths?

thank you!

There are plans of the seating layouts here

Carriage layout diagrams, PLEASE give feedback.

You need to look at the one marked 2-tier air con. What you have been allocated is not too bad. The quota system reserves a lot of lower berths for seniors, ladies and various other groups. A1 is the coach number. You could try again but you probably won't get anything better. If you do try again don't cancel your existing ticket until you have another one that you are happy with or you run the risk of being spread out all over the place.

Hey Dave,
Thanks for your help with registration with irctc. worked out well, all systems go. Now i have a different question. do you know if there are lockers at the howrah train station where we could leave our luggage for the day? coming in to Howrah in the morning and leaving at night, so no need for lodgings. thanks.
