Do you need train information?

i hope you have heard about some sites like google maps or e-rail/irctc/indianrail etc. if not, it might be worthwhile going to a travel agent instead of trying to plan your own travel...

lucknow to tanakpur is ~ 300km by road
there are no direct train options. your best bet is going from lucknow to bareilly & taking a MG passenger train to tanakpur.

There is a train from Lacknow Aisbagh Station (cars and autos are there from lacknow city) to Tanakpur:

Nainital Exp- 15308- Starts at 20:35 and reach Tanakpur at 09:25.

We returned from Tanakpur to Lacknow by this train.. it was not a pretty good experience !!! The train is actually passenger train with two reserved AC coach, lots of locals use this train with all they need to carry!!

But the reserved coach was 'Reserved' in true sense, no disturbance and there is small 1st class waiting room at the station.

And Tanakpur is very small village with minimum facilities.

Hi,does anyone know how many technical stops the pune-delhi duronto has enroute? I shall be travelling with 2 large dogs,and my only options are sampark kranti and duronto.Sampark has lots of stops,but is really a dirty train,whereas duronto,while a better train,may not stop at all enroute.(The dogs would need the stops for a walk).

i have heard that since duranto stops are technical halts only, 'sometimes' the doors are locked by attendants - to prevent passengers from boarding (by mistake or intentionally). i hope this should not affect 1A coaches (which you might be using).
btw, sampark kranti seems to have only 2 stops en route (compared to 6 technical halts for duranto) - i wonder if that info is right!!!

This should not be a problem as long as the OP informs the attendants about her situation. The Duronto has the following tech halts between Pune and Nizamuddin (as per erail)

Lonavla (12:08 - 12:10 pm)
Vasai Road (2:35 - 2:40 pm)
Baroda (6:14 - 6:34 pm)
Ratlam (10:10 - 10:15 pm)
Kota (12:55 - 1:05 am)

Note that as these are not commercial halts, the train may not necessarily stop for the duration of time indicated or exactly/till the times mentioned, so don't move very far away from the train thinking that you have plenty of time.

While the KSK has only two scheduled halts between Pune and Delhi (Bhopal, Jhansi), in actuality it has five halts between the two; Daund (reversal), Manmad (loco change), Bhusaval (crew change), Bhopal and Jhansi. However, only BPL-JHS are commercial halts.

I'm not sure the Duronto is so much better than the SK in terms of coach conditions. It still runs with an old ICF rake if I'm not wrong.

I have a far and complicated journy in front of me it seems

I was trying to figure out how far I can book a train and where it makes sense to book a train to. Anyone knows which Railway station in Uttarakhand makes most sense to get to - in terms of continuing the journy with busses? I am not sure if it is woth getting down to Bareilly to get to Kathgodam or if it is better to go somewhere else, e.g Haridwar.

I would be very greatful for some advice.

The nearest station is KGM. You have a weekly direct train from JRC to KGM that might work.

I have an interesting situation.

I will be in New Delhi from June 23-July 3 and my travel is going to be:

1. KGP-NDLS, dep June 22 by BBS Rajdhani (1AC)
2. NDLS-KGP, dep July 3rd by BBS Rajdhani (1AC).

On the return journey I want to visit a friend at IIT Kanpur. I could make a weekend trip, Sat June 30 & July 1, NDLS-CNB-NDLS by Shatabdi (1AC chair car is about Rs 1500 each way). I was thinking of an alternative.

If I travel NDLS-CNB on July 1 (Sun), then I could spend July 2 & 3 with my friend at IIT Kanpur. Is it possible to catch the BBS Rajdhani from CNB on my existing 1AC ticket? Rajdhani leaves NDLS around 1710 and reaches CNB around 2200 - Essentially, boarding at CNB.

Rajdhani rules state that either the start or end of journey has to be one of the terminating stations of Rajdhani (NDLS or BBS in my case). I have my return ticket starting from the terminus, ie, NDLS.

What do I need to do to board the Rajdhani at CNB? Do I need to make a trip to NDLS station with my e-ticket and see some high & mighty railway employee?

According to page 267 of the current "Trains at a Glance" you can change the boarding station by submitting a written request to the Station Master of the original boarding station or by contacting any Computerised Reservation Centre at least 24 hours before the departure of the train. It makes no mention of Rajdhanis in this section.

Kindly go to the nearest PRS, visit the station master with an application, get it signed, approach the clerk, and get the boarding point changed.

For example, on the BBS Rajdhani, I cannot buy a ticket for KGP-CNB if I want to go from Kharagpur to Kanpur. I can buy KGP to NDLS and get off at CNB or BBS-CNB and board at KGP (after prior intimation to IR).

We have a computerized reservation office of IR at the IIT KGP campus, I will find out from them.
