Thanks! Is the train to bangalore an option?
Thank you for the tips. I wasn't sure from your wording, is the train from udiapur to bangalore an option or is it simply too far/slow/uncomfortable?
any one have experience of such a trip? |

No way, it would take 45 or so hours to get from Udaipur to Bangalore by train.

Hi, Steven
I'd like your opinion about train from Gaya to Varanasi, most of the train are very late at night train and one train is very early moening which i don't know how to get the station in very early time (#3009), in my though I have 2 choices in my head From Gaya - Varanasi on 26/12/2007 1.#2381 - 14.57 - 18.36 2.#3151 - 21.08 - 02.36 for the first #2381 sound good choice but will arrive varanasi rather late evening, in winter it will early to sunset ? but it will not much tired... For #3151 it seems have to stay at station few hours but it's good to see life of people and sun rise in morning... Give me some ideas...really think a lot and I plan to reserve in advance through net Anyway, it's possible reserve when arrive ? (but now i see there're few seats available) Thank a lots for always help F |

I am booked on the 9782 Amritsar to Jaipur Express in 3A. In the box marked Coach No/Seat No/Berth/Status it only says three things, B1/0038/confirmed.
OK - confirmed is a given as is coach B1! What puzzles me is what kind of bunk I've got (lower, middle /upper/side/on the floor/roof etc)or have I only got a seat at the moment or what? I thought I'd got to grips with this train system malarkey business but as they say - pride comes before a fall! I've looked through Steven_Ber's excellent posts about trains but I couldn't quite figure this one out. Probably a case of the last minute jitters as I'm away in four days. Any help would be appreciated. |

In the 4th link in the 'Train Info' thread it says - includes seat/berth layouts.
38 is a window seat during the day and an Upper berth at night. (I was sure the window seat was the lower berth, but what do I know) |

Thank you very much for your swift reply. On another site I saw that 38 was a window seat when I had requested an upper bunk about two months ago. Then i got confused because I'd read on here that lower has window and upper aisle. Then I was just being thick and couldn't find anything! (I think there's so much to read on here half the battle is remembering where it is!)
Read somewhere you're away soon Steven, have a lovely time. If you see a tall bloke in a kilt wandering around (probably looking for a bar) come and say hello. All the best. |

Did you know that bagpipes are used in India? I remember reading (a few years ago) about a place where bagpipes are used all the time, somewhere in the North-East if I remember right, Darjeeling, Shillong or somewher like that. Thinking of Shillong, I seem to remember Shillong being refered to as a place that reminded the British of Scotland. I also remember reading about the problems they have in Shillong with locals getting drunk and aggressive, I'm sure there's no connection though. ![]() |

I DID know about the bagpipe thing!
In the NE of England, Morpeth Northumberland, is the National Bagpipe Museum, they have some Indian bagpipes. I can't remember where they are from though. It must have been way up in the North of India because I'm sure the film 'Carry on up the Khyber' has at least an iota of historical reference!!! As for playing them? Probably easier to just strangle a cat for the same noise after getting drunk! I don't think there's any connection either - unless they sell deep fried Mars bars in Shillong? Is there a thread on here about 'Anyone fancy a fight in...?' |

Train help requested!
Hi,
I've been fluffing around on the India railway site, with some success. However, I have two trips I would very much appreciate some advice on: 1. Haridwar to Jaipur. Would it be best to go through delhi and transfer during the day, or overnight the whole way? Is this possible? What train times do you recommend as the least painless? 2. Jaipur to Agra. I cant seem to work out what agra station I need! I would prefer to arrive in Agra in the evening, as we would stay the following day, and then leave in the morning the day after... many thanks for your invaluable advice (which I have already been using!) |

I got married in Morpeth (first time) and my eldest son works there. The town centre is still very much the same but the rest of the town has grown about fourfold. The same with Ashington next door. I lived there for a few years and the place is unrecognisable now.
Thanks again for the help, no doubt I'll be stuck whilst I'm on my travels but I know where to look! Now where's that cat????? |
