Do you need train information?

Yeah, don't I know all too well about it!

Nope! I took my assigned berth (by number). And AFAIK, SMBs are very much part of the Garibrath trains. That's how they keep the prices for 3AC travel affordable to Garibs!

I have booked a number of first class AC train trips. Of course my E-ticket only shows that I am confirmed. My question is this, once the chart as been prepared will my PNR information be updated showing my carriage and berth number? Or will I have to wait until I get to the station to get the info from the chart?
Drew
The charts are prepared about 3 hours before departure and you can check on line if you have the opportunity. For early morning departures they are done the night before. Jag mentioned SMS updates but you can only get these if you have an Indian mobile number.
Indian railway stations are chaotic but great entertainment. We make sure we get there in good time and take our tickets to the Station Supervisors office if we can't find the charts. The system works.

The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

It's kind of what I do yes: In the past, I knew these trains like my inside pocket, and where to get on and all. The Trains at a Glance railway timetables were my bible, oh the many hours I spent pouring over them.
These days, I can't figure it out for the life of me. Must be getting dumber.
Anyway, never to fret: I look up the TTE on the platform (ticket examiner, he's an incredibly busy guy in a uniform with a stack of papers and answering other passengers and domestic and being just as confused as you, he can hardly be missed. Treat with respect for best results, it's a position of quite some importance), or if all else fails, just hop on board already, you can suss it out from there, and can normally just walk on. Some compartments may be closed to one another, but so now you can just switch at the next station.
To cut a long story short: There's really no reason to panic about help I haven't found my seat yet. Indeed just get on board already.
btw These first-class tickets get assigned only at the last minute yes, it's so as to make everyone's seating as comfortable as possible. Don't worry about it, you'll be fine.

Luckily these are mostly HA carriages, half 1AC and half 2AC. So I can't get too lost, just 10 seats to deal with.
Even a full 1AC coach on my Duronto run between Kolkata and Delhi only has 18 berths. And just the one H class carriage.
I'm under the impression a copy of the chart is posted inside the first class carriage. If all else fails, that copy will be my guide.

In my experience the chart isn't posted inside the carriage. It's stuck on the outside next to the door. Not a problem at the originating station but potentially a problem if you get on part way on the route as it will inevitably have blown away by then. But the on train staff will sort things out for you. Like you say it's difficult to go too far wrong as there is limited AC1 accommodation.

not just an Indian no but specifically Airtel, HUTCH, MTNL, i suppose this list might have been expanded by now. Its been a while since hutch became vodafone.
And a quick search reveals it has been expanded....
there are apparently several sms enquiry services. may return your seat numbers when they are in the system (one of the services says that it does. The second one.

each one has its own short code and a list of subscribers it is available with.... all indian operators though.

Train Information Needed
Not sure if this is a correct thread, but can anyone please help me out?
I am booking myself with family for a trip to Goa from Pune and back in the following trains.
From Pune Jn(PUNE) to Madgaon(MAO): 12780 GOA Express
From Madgaon(MAO) to Pune Jn(PUNE): 12519 ERS Pune Express
I would like to know about the average delays (if any) these trains make. I am not bothered about the condition of the train (I am booking myself in Sleeper Coaches as the 2AC and 3ACs are all gone), as I know they are almost the same for all the trains in India and I am perfectly okay with the same, but since my trip is a bit timebound, I am worried about the timings.
Can any one please help me?

The Goa Express is usually an hour late leaving Pune. However, it enjoys huge slack between Pune and Miraj, and usually reaches Vasco on time (It may be upto half an hour late at Madgaon though). The other train I've never travelled by, so can't help you there.. maharashtra to madhya pradesh to rajasthan via rail
hi I have been trying a few sites such as clear trips ect but cant find train info for
travelling from jalgaon neer ajanta (or somewere close to ajanta
i then want to head to madhya pradesh - omkareshwar/maheshwar
is there trains ?? or am i best going by bus ?
I then want to travel from ujjain to mt abu rajasthan or somethere close
keeping in mind i dont really want to do bus rides over 5 hours
i would be grateful if you could shed some light on the subject thanks
