do i need to print e-ticket right away

I would like to purchase my train tickets now but I don't have a printer at home. Could I purchase the e-tickets now and then print them out another time?

Just save the images to your PC, and print them out when you get a printer.

I'm not sure how long the images stay on the bookings system for.

Just book the tickets now and you can print them later.

When you are ready to print them, you can simply log on to your account, go to booked tickets and print them from there. Remember that you will be asked to give the number of the ID proof, that you submitted while booking. They can be printed from any computer, anywhere.

Before I left last year I bought two cheap memory sticks. On each was copies of my visa and passport details, flight tickets etc. When I booked a train I would print off a copy and dump a copy to the memory stick. There are so many internet places in India where you can rattle off a print if you need it.
These, kept in different places, were a 'belt and braces' approach to having things stolen. Also, when the memory card was filling up on my camera I could transfer the images to them.
Have a good trip!

If you book by the IRCTC site you can always (re)print the ticket.

IRCTC also sends you an email copy of the ticket. A print out of this email is usually accepted by the TT, along with a ID.
