Train 3007. leaves AGC (Agra) at 15:30 and arrivea at nzm at 17:12. I hope to make the 22:20 train at DLI for overnight to Kalka.

Might it be safer to take a car one way back from Agra straight to DLI?

Also - you do you know if there is a place to store luggage at AGC station.

Your assistance is much appreciated.

[quote=steven_ber;134821]NDLS is New Delhi station (next to Paharganj)

DLI is (old) Delhi station, the Delhi metro has just opened a new line connecting (old) Delhi station with New Delhi station, it's only one or two stops on the metro, so any train to (old) Delhi station should also be OK.

Unfortunately travel bags and heavy luggage are not allowed on the Delhi Metro trains or even inside Metro stations, so long distance travellers will not be able to commute between the two stations via the Metro.
The usual modes of transport are all available: taxi, auto-rickshaw, bus and even the horse-drawn tonga!

The Indian Railways site has been down today, and I've found faults with every other train search engine there is, but when I check the new timetable I find train 3007 arriving at Nizamuddin at 19:28, then New Delhi at 19:55.

HOWEVER, do not book this train, this is the slowest train on the Calcutta-Delhi route, it leaves Calcutta almost a day and a half before it gets to Agra, as the train is not one of the many more important trains on this route, it will not have priority if it (or any other trains) gets delayed.

I normally anticipate a 10-15% delay over a train’s entire route, just to be on the safe side, even a 5% delay for this train would prevent you from making your connection in Delhi.

So I guess a bus or a cab would be the best bet, though I'm really not sure how much time you should allow for a road journey to Delhi. (But remember you're going to OLD Delhi station, often called Delhi Main)

There are 'cloak rooms' to store your luggage on Agra Cant station.

Luggage storage at Agra train station

.
Another alternative would be to take a taxi to Tundla Jn ( 30 kms from Agra) and catch the Kalka Mail from there. Tundla is on the main line from Kolkata to Delhi.

Great idea.

Train 2311 departs Tundla daily at 16:55 and gets to (old) Delhi station at 20:35, so no need to take taxi's in Delhi, and you'd leave for the train station at the same time you would have for the train from Agra.

This train should also be more reliable.

this is what a taxi driver pleaded with us, tryign to get a fare from mumbai to dadar when our departure point was changed (this guy was so cunning, he'd asked us our travel plans earlier in the day when we caught a ride to chowpatti beach, and was waiting for us when he worked out the train departure point had been changed).

but we just got on the metro train and no one questioned or challenged us.
