Delhi to Jaipur - TRAIN HELP REQ'D

Looking for a lot of insight on this one. Just arrived into Delhi and found out that 4 hr train to Jaipur leaves at 6.10 am from the New Delhi station.

I have NOT bought a ticket and the ticket booth does not open until 8 am.

Q.. can you buy a ticket on the train? If yes, anyone have an approximate for a 2A (2nd class A/C fare)

Please please help if you can..

Thank you !!

You sure are courageous to go without a ticket on the train. Usually it is not permitted to travel on the airconditioned coaches without a reservation on the train, but you could go a bit earlier than the train departure timing and try to get the ticket conductor to let you know the status of the seats on the train and see if he can accomodate you with a difference of fare from the normal ticket that you buy from the normal unreserved class window that will be open one hour before the train departure time. Remember that you can always get into the unreserved compartment with the cheapest ticket but then there may be no space at all in most cases as there is no reservation as the name indicates so it is a free for all and might is right here and you will not find any ladies in this compartment either.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Aadil.

Thank Aadil!

the train from delhi to jaipur leaves at 6.10 am.. therefore I suppose your suggestion is to arrive at 5.10 and see if we can get the attn of a conductor.
I have only been on trains from v. small stations (ie Varkala) and this exercise in Delhi feels a bit daunting. Are the train conductors clearly marked (ie uniforms etc)?

Sorry to ask such a silly q but I have to cover the bases
Also, any ball park estimate of how much a ticket will cost for 2nd class a/c?

Sorry, but I don't have a clue how much it will cost for the 2AC ticket but I will try to find out from somewhere and let you know in a few minutes if possible. About the train ticket conductors they are usually dressed in a black jacket with a maroon tie and white shirt with a writing pad in their hands with the coach seating reservations charts. There is a separate TC for a few coaches so you have to find the right one for the AC coaches. Or else you can also try the help or information desk as soon as you reach the station for any assistance that they may be able to provide you. They should atleast be able to tell you if there are seats available on the train and also where to buy them. Please do not take any assistance from any of the touts frequenting the area as they will rip you off totally and you may still find yourself without a ticket or seat on the train. You may have to pay the TC something extra for the favour if there are no seats available as he will usually get you one from the special quota if he has not sold it off already. I would suggest you reach the station by about 04:30am atleast. Best of luck for your journey tomorrow!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.

In case you're interested, there is another train for Jaipur that leaves around 3pm from another station in Delhi (not the main station next to Pahar Ganj, but still close enough to be convenient)

It is a less popular train than then early morning one, and therefore may have more seats, especially last minute.

The fares are Rs1585 (1AC), Rs860 (2AC) and Rs600 (3AC) from New Delhi to Jaipur. Normal sleeper fares should be even cheaper at about Rs200 approximately. Sorry about the delay in finding the information as the irctc website is not working after 2330 till 0430 hours and this information is from some other sources. Hope you get this info in time. Take care when you get to the station in the morning and hope you get your seats on the train you want.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Probably too late to be of any use.. (check the train information thread )

Train 2015 departs New Delhi (not Wednesday) at 06:10 and gets to Jaipur at 10:40.

Executive chair class, air-conditioned = Rs 915

Chair class, air-conditioned = Rs 465

Train 2015 is the Shatabdi Express, some tickets are held back till the day of travel and sold at a special kiosk on or near the departure platform (platform 9)

Get there early to be sure of getting tickets.
