Delhi- Taj Mahal in a day
Hi all,
I will be in Delhi for a day and would like to see the Taj Mahal and possibly Fetehpur Sikri in a day. Can someone please advise me on the best way to do that? I suppose hiring a car and driver would be best, but how long will it take and any ideas on costs? Thank you Dessy ![]() |

It'll be a long and rushed day, but I think you can probably manage it!
You could get the Shatabdi Express in the morning and then the one in the evening back to Delhi. I don't know the exact cost of the Taj Mahal and Fatepur Sikri at the moment, but think Tower of London type prices - not cheap I'm afraid. They'll be more qualified people on here than me to advise on the cost of the driver. If you can tolerate a night in Agra, it's worth it because Akbar's Tomb, Itmid Ud Dalaugh (sic), and the Agra Fort are all well, well worth a visit as well! I hope that helps, Rob

I did the Taj in a day back in 1991. I went on a tour from Delhi by bus. It left early in the morning and got back late at night. I thougt it was a good deal. We first visited Agra Fort, then the Taj. We stopped off at a government shop that had awesome things made out of the same inlaid stone that the Taj in made from. On the way back to Delhi, we stopped in Vrindaban and Mathura, 2 places where Krishna lived and was born. I think back then I paid less than $20 u.s. for the trip. Now I hear it's $20 just for entrance to the Taj alone! I saw alot in 1 day! If you only have a day, then go for the tour! I didn't see Fatehpur Sikri, but I'm sure there's a tour where you can see both from Delhi.

Thanks guys.
But I think doing it by car would probably be the quickest way as i wont be constricted with train/bus times. Any views on that? Anyone done it? Thanks D. |

You can get to the Taj from Delhi by car in around 4hrs,
But to see a sunrise or sunset you need to stay overnight there,,,,,,,,,,,, |

Taj Mahal
Hi I had a brilliant tour recently bought through the India?Delhi tourist board we got a mini bus (very comfortable) and took a trip to 1) Akbars tomb (breakfast stop on the way) then 2) taj Mahal (stunning words defeat me) then lunch (brilliant food) 3) government carving/inlay workshop (exquisite)finally 4) Red Fort all with guides (very knowlegable). Then home to Delhi. I can supply more info if required I would strongly recommend it, all done in one day.

Trip to Agra
My Ticket was bought through the Dehli Tourism Office and was very good value (not sure of price) and I left their office (near the early morning wholesale flower market, quite a sight in itself) at 7.00am. Once out of Delhi travel was speedy. Very good guide and sights, we returned to Dehli just after 10.oopm (traffic in Dehli at that time quite slow) Brilliant day couldn't fault it. Im trying to put my India travels (with photos) on a website if I'm successful I'll post info on this site. or email you it. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you go how you get on. Tony

I always felt the Taj was a bit minor in what one can see in Agra and vicinity. I "grooved" on Fatehpur Sikri despite the touts thicker than flies. They loved my boy's Hindi. They were having fun so why worry.?
