Hello friends!

I am hoping to get to Srinagar from Delhi on March 22nd, and I need to return from Srinagar to Delhi on April 5th to catch my flight out of the country the morning of the 6th.
It seems the only way to get a train from Delhi to srinagar is to first go to Jammu? I cannot find any direct trains to Srinagar.

I am having some difficulty figuring out this whole rail way system but I see I should really book ahead of time. Is cleartrip still the best option?
Would love some advice. Thanks

Srinagar is not yet connected by any fast trains from the main stations.
Only way is to fly.

hmm. Well, the flights are pretty expensive. I would rather take the scenic train anyways. How do I do that?

i heard the other day that the Srinagar Jammu road was closed due to snow/landslides.
Best if you can afford it to fly as even if you get there you might not be able to get out.

Dan, thanks. But I am sure that by the end of March when I am travelling there will be no snow problems. The flight is going to cost 140 CDN, which is way too much. besides, I would rather take the train anyways.

There are no train services to Srinagar that i am aware of.
Srinagar is on the Jammu- Barramulla section and the route is not yet complete, let alone operational for passenger services.

So currently, the only option is to fly or bus.

I guess almost half of the route is complete and operational (in streches). Check this out:

There are two trains between Delhi and Udhampur. From Udhampur, take a bus/jeep etc. to Qazigund . After that, catch the train between Qazigund and Srinagar.

Disclaimer: I've taken this info from Indian railways website and Google maps, and have no practical experience of travelling in Kashmir.

OK! So... Can anyone tell me exactly how to get to Srinagar via train and bus? So far, it looks like I can get a train from Delhi to Jammu, and then maybe bus to Srinagar? Is this best? Easiest? Safest? I will be travelling in late March.
thanks very much.

Please see above what I've posted.

Delhi -> Udhampur By train
Udhampur -> Qazikund by Bus/Taxi
Qazikund -> Srinagar by train again.

I think journey by train would be more picturesque and of course safer than using services of nut drivers.

Come to Jammu. You'll get share Sumo (cab) service from Gamut or Balbir chawk in Jammu city. The distance is 300 km (may be little more or less). It takes around 7 hours to reach Srinagar by Sumo.

There are bus services also. It takes more time, about 10 hours. So, I always prefer Sumo service.
