Delhi Metro (Old Thread)
Anyone have any experience with it? Where did you go? Do you use it regularly?
I've seen the news stories, perused the maps (the very limited system now running and the "Vision 2010" which proposes extending lines all the way to the IGI airport!), but have heard little practical detail.
In the course of usual roamings around Delhi, it looks the one station tourists would see which is now open is the one at Kashmir Gate. Is it attached to the bus terminal? Conveniently close? A death-defying scramble across the road?
Also, the schedule calls for the opening of 4 more stations by the end of this month. Anyone heard about opening celebrations?
The whole thing seems like an amazing project, and I can't wait to see it for myself! If I had the opportunity to travel to India now (and unfortunately I don't), I'd take the train to the end of the line and wander around out there just to see what the area is like.

It'll be interesting to see. If I get stuck in Delhi because of Divali, I'll have a look at the metro.

Anyone attending the opening of the Tri Nagar to Tis Hazari segment, happening today (10/3, haven't been able to nail down a time)? The PM will inaugurate the stretch, but not ride on the train due to "security concerns". Plans are for the PM to arrive and depart from the Tri Nagar station by helicopter. So much for any identification with the common man: The PM will be completely spared from experiencing any of the traffic problems that the metro is supposed to help alleviate!
Still hoping to hear first-hand reports of day-to-day commutes.
