Booking Train to Dargeeling
Hi MissSyrup,
I m Dilip Kumar from Delhi,India. There is no option for online internet booking for trains to Dargiling. Only comfortable way to book train is to contact any railway booking agent in Kolkata after visiting there. You may book train from "New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling OR Siliguri to Dargeeling". Both "New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri" are railway station on plains and nearby to each other but one day journey from Kolkata by Train. Since I m in Delhi I cant help you more then this.

You may need to prepare yourself for a disappointment. At the moment the Darjeeling Railway is closed between NJP and Kurseong as a result of a major landslide during the 2010 monsoon. The latest prediction for completion of repairs is late April but these dates tend to slip.At the moment service trains (diesel hauled) are running from Kurseong to Darjeeling and the steam hauled joy train is still running between Darjeeling and Ghum.
If the repairs are not completed by the time that you get there you will need to travel by road from NJP to Kurseong. I am told that it is easy enough to get a shared jeep for this trip.

Reason: Additional info available
Hello Dave W.
Thank you very much for the information. OH MY! I almost booked it but I checked out the Darjeeling Railway Himalayan website on current news and I think I might risk it and buy it anyways and see if it will be fixed by end of APRIL. However it is not running you are correct. There is also a protest going on.
Does anyone know if any other kind of trains is still going up there?
I only booked the Darjeeling Mail. I didn't book the other trains because you had to book one month ahead.
I am thinking about the Nilgiri Mountain Railway looks phenomenal anyone has any information on this or know it's current news.
How to book? When it runs? Please give information this way.

More Train information needed
One more thing, really appreciated your help Dave W. A lot of thanks for your kindness.

Reason: Didn't want to add information I already knew..
Mahanadi is the last station before Kurseong so the answer is that there are currently no public trains between NJP and there. It is very close to the landslide at Pagla Jorgha which has also taken out the hill cart road and I have no idea what kind of access may have survived to Mahanadi.
AS well as the service trains from Kurseong to Darjeeling and the Ghum - Darjeeling joy trains mentioned in my previous post there are quite often privately chartered trains organised by railfan groups and tour companies. I know that some of these will run in late February and early March on both sides of the break in the line as I will be travelling on them. There may well be others including in April but I'm not sure how you can find out. If there was a charter running you would have to blag your way onto the train somehow.
I'm afraid that I don't know much about the Nilgiri line except that it is right down in the south of India.
If you are really interested there is video footage of both the Darjeeling Himalaya and the Nilgiri, amongst others, here

Hi Dave W.
Yes I saw some BBC railway steam engine documentaries. I just was wondering if you knew more. I was hoping anyone could even tell me how I would get from New Jalpaiguri to Kurseong via taking the diesel hauled train up to Darjeeling that part.

Darjeeling toy train joy ride in August 2011?
Hi -
Is the DJ-DJRZ (Darjeeling - To Darjeeling) joyride running now (Aug 2011)?
When I log into IRCTC, the availability varies - but it does not show me the "Make Payment" button.
I was trying this aorund 1 PM IST, and my understanding is that IRCTC now allows booking from 12:30 AM IST to 11:30 PM IST (excluding opening dates). What am I missing?
