ClearTrip.com to book Trains

Just wondered if others have used Cleartrip.com's new train booking feature. My fingers are crossed - it was tremendously easy and I was able to print e-tickets. but could it be too good to be true??

We'll see when we actually board!

Cheers-
Patty

I tried to book thro' Thomascook.co.in.. unfortunately it was going on forever. Then I tried Clear Trip. Everything worked so well. It accepted ANZ Visa Card - no drama. From Clear Trip you can get only an e ticket. Therefore, make sure that identification details are correct. Thanks Clear Trip - you have made a difference to a cumbersome process. Incidentally Make My Trip is launching Indian Railway booking soon as indicated in their website.

For a verification of sorts:
1. Goto www.indianrail.gov.in (official IR site, make sure to have your pop blocker on!)
2. Goto "PNR Enquiry" (first option under "Services You Can Use")
3. Key in the PNR number printed on the e-ticket, booked from cleartrip.com

If the travel itinerary shows up, then voila! cleartrip train booking actually works!

Tx Wildmacaw!!

I checked by keying in the PNR number as in the Clear Trip e ticket and the itinerary pops up with the correct journey date, destinations etc without the passenger's names. Under the passenger names,it appears as Passenger 1 and Passenger 2.

Hope it is OK?

Sounds like a good alternative, but be aware that they charge a small surcharge. I compared both ClearT and IRCTC and the ClearT surcharge was a little over 6% on the trip I looked at.

Bruce3404,

I do not think that CT charges so much. In my case, it was an insignificant amount (1.2% of base fare). I have given below the extract from the invoice:

Base Fare Rs 1,650.00
Taxes & Fees Rs 25.00
Cleartrip Service Fee Rs 20.00
Transaction Fee Rs 30.51
Total Rs 1,726

It is not much different to booking through an agent isn't it?
Agents' fees here are anything from 50 - 100 rupees.

I just looked at one trip, from Mumbai to Aurangabad, to compile my "data". If I were having trouble using IRCTC, paying an extra 1.2% or 6% would seem insignificant as opposed to screaming at the computer Now if I could only find an MTDC website alternative that would allow me to pay 10% more for a booking in Aurangabad, I'd be happy.

Ever since computers were invented people have been screaming at them, so don't forget to scream at your computer every once in a while, or it may think you no longer care.

Yup its OK. As long as the PNR number shows up , everything is good. You should find your name & age, next to your berth number, on the list posted on the side of the bogey on the day of the journey.

Hi all!
I work with Cleartrip. Would be happy to respond to any queries/suggestions that you may have about our Trains product.
I would also like to clarify that the difference of price from what IRCTC charges is for non ac ticket Rs. 10 and for AC tickets Rs. 20

p.s. not here to spam...truthfully!

Does cleartrip have any plans to sell tourist quota tickets in the near future?

How about 'break of journey' tickets (a multi leg trip with telescopic rate prices), any plans to sell these?

Will cleartrip only be allowed to sell the same tickets as IRCTC?

Thanks for any info.

Cleartrip doesn't support tourist quota or break journey as such bookings are not supported by our supplier system. However we do support connecting train search. More details here
