That's a difficult route. An alternative is to do the journey in 2 parts, and take advantage of trains that divert at Guntakal Junction. You could get one of these:

2164 CHENNAI EXP CHENNAI CENTRAL 07:00 GUNTAKAL JN 14:30
6010 MUMBAI MAIL CHENNAI CENTRAL 22:50 GUNTAKAL JN 08:15
6012 MUMBAI EXPRESS CHENNAI CENTRAL 11:45 GUNTAKAL JN 20:40

all of which run daily. Spend a night in Guntakal, then the next morning catch the:

7603 KCG YPR EXP GUNTAKAL JN 06:05 MADGAON 18:38
which runs on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.

That is a surprising thing to say, when I have already quoted a suitable train, number 7603 "KCG-YPR EXPRESS" dept GUNTAKAL JN 06:05 arr MADGAON 18:38 which runs on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. I think Madgaon is just as convenient to get to Goa as Vasco Da Gama.

Hi VSP - I did not mention train number 7227 as it is a temporary train, and will be withdrawn after 24 Oct 2006.

Dear Tim Makins,

Thanks for the great news that 7227 will be withdrawn after 24.10.2006 because we are very eagerly waiting for 2847/2848 and incidentally 2848 is going to be faster than 2842!!!!
---------
Please look at this:
.....
You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
7227 AMARAVATHI EXP 21-10-2006 GUNTAKAL JN VASCO DA GAMA GENERAL

2 24-10-2006 AVAILABLE- 0042 AVAILABLE- 0009
-----------------------
Since 7227 (ex.GTL on TUE/FRI/SAT) is going to be replaced with 2847 (ex.GTL on MON/WED/THU/SAT).
-----
As such, the 7603 will be hauling Vasco Coaches on the above 4 days after 24.10.2006 instead of the present 3 days!!!!!

You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code

Dear Tim,

.....and 7227 is NOT a Temporary Train but has been in operation for the past several years. The 7227 had been extended upto Howrah and also conferred with Superfast Express status with one more day of operation.
------------
Ofcourse, in this year's TT, it has been mentioned that 7227 will be replaced by Train No.2847

I am only repeating the information on http://www.indianrail.gov.in/cgi_bin...rcdest_cgi.cgi

This page says that it is a temporary train, and will be withdrawn after 24 Oct 2006.

Dear Tim,

I am giving you the information as printed in Page No.136 of South Zone Time-table in Table No.30.
.....
"Ofcourse, in this year's TT, it has been mentioned that 7227 will be replaced by Train No.2847"
.....

Let us give a big welcome to 2847/2848, though this is going to cause lot of inconvenience to VSG-KCG Passengers, but provides a great relief to KCG-VSG Passengers.
