Rest Rooms are available. If I remember correctly, the charges of dormitory is Rs. 120.
AC Waiting Room is also available. 60 Rs. per person for the 1st hour and 40 Rs. for every next hour!!
Veg Restaurants/The French Loaf is available inside the station premises!!
There is also a Cyber Cafe inside the premises. You can spend your time there.
If you come outside of the station, from the door beside which the charts are put up, just take a right, cross the road and you would see some shops there!! They make amazing tea!! You can also take the underground subway!! One tea/tobacco store is located just outside the subway (On the other side of the road/Opposite to the station)

No Idea. I have visited Chennai twice till now. Once when my connecting train did not confirm. And the second time around early morning at 4 am when I was supposed to board Coromandel. Whatever little details I had noticed, I have conveyed to you!!

You can't book in advance. Just show up and hope that one is available.
