Hi,
rameshwaram to tiruchandor is roughly 220 kms and tiruchandor to kanyakumari is around 110 kms. You can also visit the navagraha temples on your back from kanyakumari. It seems that your parents have booked the train from chennai to rameshwaram, if that is the case then you must travel from rameshwaram-madurai-kanyakumari-tiruchi-tanjur and then cover the navagraha temples from tanjur and kumbakonam. The navagraha temples will take 1 1/2days to cover from tanjur. The hotel guys can arrange a vehicle.

Do they only want to see the places around rameswaram? Then Devipatnam where navagrahs are there in the sea.Uttarakosamangai, Tirupullani and the Rajarajeswari temple in the palace. In Trichy they can visit malakottai temple and the famous temple in Srirangam and also the jambukeshwar temple No. It's in Trichy - Rameswaram Highway . You need to get back to Ramanathapuram [ 1Hour ]followed by another hour drive to Devipatnam. It's very famous & Now they have built a small bridge across the ocean to reach the Open temple And When I visited 8 years ago , we need to walk in ocean itself upto the Deity [ around 50 Metres + ] which is thrilling and infact For some prayers we took the Circles around the Deity in Ocean 21 times .. Half swim , half walk holding onto the Wall around the deity ! But the beauty is No Waves almost and it's not Deep too !.
No Proper "Dress changing room available" in the shore and No other amenities available ..Plan Accordingly !~
And if your parents are going to Kanyakumari after rameswaram and they can adjust to Bad roads, they can take Rameswaram-Ramanathapuram-Kilakkarai-Ervadi [ Dhargah very famous and Hindus too visit ]-Sayalkudi-Tiruchendur [Temple] -KAnyakumari and this is the Shortest route but road is poor for around 80 kms + from Ramanathapuram OR the much standard Longer route , Rameswaram-Madurai-KAnyakumari !
Hope this helps !

Dear mahaguru,
hi and regret i could not get in touch for ur suggestion. However, I haves visited Kanyakumari,Rameshwaram, Madurai, Kodaiknal, Trivendrum. First I tuch the KKumari, I find it nice & quite place to be with family enjoyed tri sea bath and visiting rock temple/statue near by. I kids were very happy. then we took a package tour for Rs. 800/ ( including stay and lunch/ travel) per head to Madurai, Rameshwaram, Kodaiknal. the tour operator failed to provide satisfactory service, but being new to region i found it ok. during traveling from KK to Madurai, we spoted many9infact large no. of) wind mills generating enrgy in isolated place,Road from KK to Madurai was very nice as appriciated/sggestsed by some members in the forum. Rameshwaram was very hot/humid. the temple was very big enough, however, there is no system of darshan nor any guide was available. we took bath in 22 wells on payment of Rs. 50 pp. sleeprs/shoes were stolen when we return from darshan.the whole surrounding was smelling of fish. The Kodai Kanal was a refreshing and soothing journey we enjoyed a lot. Over all it is good experience for us, however, the food problems is always there for north indians.
