Thread title has been changed.

BTW.

Don't give me the credit for the above post, another indiamiker showed me how to change the boarding station online, I didn't think it could be done.

I've searched for the thread where the member showed me how to do it, but I can't find it, and embarassingly, I can't remember who the member was.
.
SOS: Missing Person...

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

Steven & everyone

For updating
As above info, we've been tried booking from GANDHINAGAR JRP to JAISALMER and Boarding point at JAIPUR

We got right through the process of booking. Entered credit card details n clicked "buy ticket", it seemed to work but it was not. Every time got this message saying

“ Your request for Booking cannot be processed since there was an error while booking.
The reservation as per your requested details could not be processed due to one of the following reasons

1.Communication Failure.

2.Berth Allocation could not be met.

3.Compact Accommodation Request not met.

4.Opening day booking (60 days in advance/ less than 60 days in advance for some trains) is not permitted before 08.00 A.M.

The money debited from your account will be credited to you.
For any queries, please use reference number 0027968783.

To try another Transaction, please use this link to Book Another Ticket
We regret that your transaction couldnot be processed ”

1. don’t think so but still have no clue
2. if they have 13 berths available as status 4 of us should get some of them
3. does that mean 2AC Class?
4. made it last night Indian time & this morning after 8 am. Indian time.

We think we did everything in the right way n miss nothing. We tried different browser or gateway also clear cookies, temp anything that people on here been adviced but still the same problem for many times.
And thanks to IRCTC for fast refund us back now 5 of 11 transaction we tried they have taken money from account for no tickets.

We guess maybe it was about this “You will be allotted berths earmarked for boarding point.Check for availability of berths from boarding point before proceeding” the words printed in red in the pop-up box after clicking for change Boarding point.

Check for availability of berths from boarding point before proceeding. As JAIPUR is boarding point which only 0001 for 2AC class left so we couldn’t done this booking though we go through the page showing all details and the amount of money will be charge. Our guessing maybe wrong.

Afraid of losing a few available tickets on that day so we decided to book from GANDHINAGAR JRP to JAISALMER without Boarding point. Well it worked fine & fast, got the same coach but not the right berth type as we specified n this should not be the problem at all.

Now we have to come back to this getting on the train from Jaipur if we can make sure that we not gonna loose our berths if we r not shown up at the GANDHINAGAR JRP, if not then we would find the way n go straight to GANDHINAGAR JRP n got 3 mins to catch the train when it arrives. (21 GADJ GANDHINAGAR JPR 1 23:29 23:31 302 1 )

as steven said its about 6 km. from the center of Jaipur, hope we hiring taxi will make it easier to get there very late night. Or any suggestion ?

Thanks a lot

One of the Reservation Rules says that if you wish to board a train at enroute station other than from the reserved point, you must give a written request to the Station Manager of original boarding station or at Computerised Reservation Centres on boarding station at least 24 hours before departure of train. No refund is admissible for untravelled portion between the original boarding station and enroute boarding station.

I suggest you may approach the Computerised Reservation Centre in Jaipur to get your boarding station changed at least 24 hours before departure of the train.

Dear Steven,

A nice explanation.

But I am afraid, you cannot opt for Boarding Point at the time of booking.

In the example given by you, the ticket will be issued from GADJ but you may get the Berth out of Jaipur Quota.

If both the quotas are one and the same, then your example will hold good.

I welcome to be corrected. :-)

Dear Steven,
(...contd....)

My further enquiries with my PRS-man revealed that the "example" narrated by you is "NOT" being allowed for the Trains handled by
Calcutta/Madras/Secunderabad/ New Delhi PRS Centres.

It is being allowed by Bombay PRS.

4059 bookings are routed through NDLS/PRS

Thanks VSP, Good info.

I was wondering why the 'change boarding station' was allowed (and then showed the GADJ quota), now I know, I suppose the 'change boarding station' option is useful for Tatkal tickets, but the tatkal option (for booking online) is decided on the previous page, so I had wondered why the 'change boarding station' was still an option if Tatkal hadn't been selected, I guess it has to be allowed for tickets booked via Bombay PRS.

Can you think of any other example of when 'change boarding station' would be a good idea (if neither booking through Bombay PRS or using Tatkal)?

Does the Bombay PRS deal with all Western Railway and Central Railway trains?

(any other trains?)

Or does the Bombay PRS only deal with tickets (for any trains?) booked within it's geographical area?

Thanks for any info, this will be very useful to know.

Dear Steven,

Bombay PRS deals with all trains that depart from Mumbai-area/Pune/ Ahmedabad etc.

Except for Tatkal, I am afraid Boarding Point is NOT allowed for any other Quotas.

Why don't you try a booking from BCT to NDLS by 2951 with ST as Boarding Point? If you get this booking on-line, kindly let me know.

In fact "Change of Boarding Point" is prohibited for IRCTC Bookings, as specified in the Terms & Conditions.

Just thought of another example when changing the boarding station is a good option.

If a person wants to use the Trivandrum Rajdhani to get from Kota to Madgaon, they would have to book from Nizamuddin till Madgaon and change boarding station to Kota. (as Rajdhani bookings have to include either the starting or terminating station when booking)(*except SBC Rajdhani)

(the TVC Rajdhani is now going to have an official halt at Ratlam for the next 6 months)

Go to a computerised reservation office and ask them to change the boarding station, this will have to be done at least 6 hours before the train departs from Bangalore, otherwise they will assume you have missed the train in Bangalore and give your berth to someone else.

Dear Steven,

##The request for change of Boarding Point has to be submitted atleast 24 Hrs. before the scheduled departure of the train
to the Station Authorities, from where you desire to get into the train (**in this case Pune), that is, other than the station from where you should have taken the train (**in this case Bangalore).

The rule for boarding at an enroute station as mentioned in the Zonal Time Table under the head Reservations is as under:

If you wish to board a train at an enroute station other than from the reserved point, you must give a written request to the Station Manager of original boarding station or at Computerised Reservation Centre on boarding station at least 24 hours before departure of train.....

The rule for the change of boarding station as stated under Rules and Policies in the IRCTC site is as under:

A specific request must be made in writing at the station where the ticket was purchased and resevation made at least 24 hours before the schedule departure on the train from the starting point.

Going by these rules, it appears that there are three options for a passenger desirous of changing the boarding stations : (1) at the original boarding station (2) Computerised Reservation Centre of the boarding station and (3) at the station where the ticket was purchased and the reservation made.

The 3rd option seems to be the safest .
