can i get on the train from jaipur in stead of delhi (if i paid the train fare from delhi to jaisalmer ) there is a problem for doing this, the seat

Book from GANDHINAGAR JPR (station code GADJ).

That's the station before Jaipur, 6kms from the centre of Jaipur, yet it's on the same quota as Delhi, so there are 13 berths left in 2A for 3rd December.

There is a way (when booking online) to book from one station and board at another, but I've no time to explain at the moment, if you booked from Delhi, you'd have to do this.

If you book from GANDHINAGAR JPR be sure to be waiting for the train as it arrives in Jaipur to make sure your berths are not given away.

ur nice steven but im still worry how to make sure our berths still available if we do this option.

anyway i have looked up availability on http://www.indianrail.gov.in/using foreign tourist quota n there are 0004 berths available in 2AC. so this is good news ?

Thanks!!

Are you familiar with Bangkok?

Imagine a train from Hua Hin approaching Hualamphong (and imagine if the train was to carry on it's journey North after Hualamphong), before it gets to Hualamphong it calls at Bang Sue and Sam Sen, there is extremely little chance of the ticket checker going through the train and giving away seats of people booked to board at Bang Sue or Sam Sen before the train arrives at Hualamphong.

Forget about the Foreign Tourist Quota, you have to book trains in India to be able to use the FTQ (not allowed over the Internet), and there is a very high chance that the FTQ will be used before you get to India.

I'll explain how to book a ticket over the net from one station, and board at another station, I'll do this later when I have more time.

siam yep i think i saw a guy with dhoti on walking near Hualamphong last year, was that u? lol

so it means it gonna be ok n we can have our berths right?

today i've tried booking tickets again 4059 : DLI JSM EXPRESS 2AC for 4 persons, n ignored of how many berths available (shown 0001 left). i just follow the process booking n found they allow me to put all details for 4 person (as attach file) till the last screenshot of credit card detail which i did not follow on this process , because i doubt about what type of ticket will i get for 4 person as it shown status available-0001.

thanks for all can help sorting this out

It can happen. Last year a member came to visit me at my home. He had a reservation from New Delhi. Since the train he was taking was to halt at Nizamuddin too he decided to board at Nizamuddin. His berth had by that time given away. Anyway he could manage to get an alternate accomodation. So it is best to mention your point of boarding while making the reservation.

While travelling from Mumbai, I have often seen that TTE/Conductors will allocate the vacant berths, arising out of some passengers not boarding the trains at the starting points, only after Borivali (on Western Railway trains), after Kalyan(on Central Railway trains) and after Panvel (on trains running on Konkan Railway lines). I guess, this is more of a convention than the rules.

I agree with you Bhai Sadanand, it is more of a convention. With the suberban railway system that you have in Mumbai the convention may be to allocate unclaimed berths after Borivali & Kalyan.
In Delhi it is not the same. Again conventions can be influenced... you know what I mean.

Book from GANDHINAGAR JPR to JAISALMER, then change the boarding point to Jaipur.

I'm going to do a full explanation in the post below, you'll probibly know most of it already, but I'm doing the full explanation so I can just provide a link to anyone else wanting the same info.

EDIT - the following doesn't work, see posts further down the thread.

The following post is to explain how to change your boarding point when booking on-line, I'll give an example of when this is a worthwhile thing to do.

A person wanting to book a train from Jaipur to Jaisalmer may find that there is a waiting list for the Jaipur-Jaisalmer tickets, but there are berths available on the from the station before Jaipur.

It's not a good idea to book from one station, then just board at another (without letting Indian Railways know that your doing that) as the ticket inspector may assume you've not turned up for your train and give your seat/berth to someone else.

Gandhinagar JPR (station code GADJ) is 6kms from the centre of Jaipur, yet it's on a different quota to Jaipur, Jaipur is also closer to Jaisalmer* .

Below, I will show how to book from Gandhinagar JPR to Jaisalmer, then change the boarding point to Jaipur.

*This can only be done if the station you're paying from is further away from your destination than the station you'll be boarding at.

In the example I'll use, there is availability from Gandhinagar JPR (station code GADJ) to Jaisalmer (JSM), but no availability from Jaipur (JP) to Jaisalmer.

First go to the http://www.irctc.co.in/ website and sign in.

Then enter the details of the train, enter the details of the train from GADJ to JSM (because the quota from GADJ has availability), you will have to pay the fare from GADJ to Jaisalmer, even though you'll be boarding at Jaipur, but the difference in fare is tiny.

Remember to select e-ticket (then click OK in the box that pops-up).

Now click on 'Find trains' and you'll be taken to the next page.

Then click on 'book ticket' and you'll be taken to the next page.

Now, look at the 'Boarding point', there is a box next to it with GADJ in the box, next to the box there is a small image of a train, click on that image and the following pop-up box will appear.

Click on 'Jaipur', then click on 'Go'.

(The words printed in Red seem to be meaningless, I've just tested for availability and was given the availability from GADJ not Jaipur)

As you'll see above, the ticket can now be purchased from GADJ to Jaisalmer, with the boarding point at Jaipur, but using the GADJ-JSM quota.
---------------------------

To find the quota for a different station (see below for the best way to do this), Find the train you're looking for by searching (in this case) for a train from Jaipur to Jaisalmer, check availability, if there is a waitlist* click on 'get schedule', then copy the station before Jaipur (GADJ) and do a search for trains from GADJ to Jaisalmer, then search for availability again.

(*Waitlisted tickets Can't be booked over the net)

The following is the best way to find trains and availability.

Quote:
Go to the following page.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_srcdest_names.html

Source Station Name - Jaipur

Destination Station Name – Jaisalmer

Class - All Class

Then click on Get It.

(Indian Railways is now 'day of week' sensitive, so if the journey you plan to take will be on a Monday, make sure you enter a date that is also a Monday to view all trains that run on a Monday)

onto next page........to get availability.

Click on circle next to train number.

Please check Days Of Run as not all trains are daily.

Look at top left of screen.....

Enter Your Journey Date - 20 - Oct. (for example)

Enter Quota - General or Foreign Tourist Quota

Look at the top right of the screen for Classes, click on the circle next to the class you want (make sure it's on the same line as the train you want).

Then click on Get Availability

If you want to see a few different dates for the same train, do not select a date, the site will give you the availability for the selected train for the next 6 times it runs, and then the next 6 and so on.

This site can be slow.
