Can I travel in Shatabdi without reservation?

Hey sudheer, shed your laziness and take some trouble for your kid's first train journey!! It should be worth standing in the queue for a couple of hours for your child!

And if the coach happens to be almost empty on the day of your journey, your child will forever remember that daddy spent three hours to reserve an entire coach for her!!

There is a Shatabdi kiosk in SBC. Itis adjacent to the platform where the Shatabdi arrives from Mysore. In fact, it is approachable from the alternative entrance to SBC station.

Beats me! Probably 'Southern' (Bangalore City was a part of Southern Railway for a long time).

IR has its own quirks...look at Cuddapah (or Kadapa) in Andhra Pradesh...the station code is HX...bearing no relation whatsoever to the town.

He's bought both the tickets directly at the station counter when the train was already waiting at the platform for the signal to turn green!

....detailed story?? probably you can expect it from him after he reaches B'lore

I regretted taking the ticket on the return leg of the journey! No checker came to check. Or maybe he did when I was toying with my Mysore Belly...

Had a blast of a time, was in the fantasy park on the first day with a night drive to chamundi hills, and to the palace as well as the railway museum on the second.

And all with a personal guide of Mysore (speaking very good English) :-) Any guesses who

I'm sure you can travel by any train uin India without prior reservation. Only find often special counter for Shatabdi tickets and don't be surprised that form of its tickets is quite diffirent - it is just small brown rectangular piece of cardboard.

S Stands for South and for some more info on station codes do visit this Station codes

My question is could we get an e-ticket from Chennai-Bangalore-Mysore Train#2007? It leaves at 6am and arrives in Bangalore at 11am...then to Mysore at 13:00.Then stop and hop out to Bangalore and come back to Chennai the next day to the train#2008 Mysore-Bangalore-Chennai? This train leaves in Mysore at 2pm, so I assumed it will arrive in Bangalore at around 4pm then we arrived in Chennai at 9m.

Is online booking is safe to use? or could we just buy tickets one day before our trip?

It is much better to book Bangalore tickets atleast a week before your planned travel dates.
