Can I book train tickets on IRCTC website using International credit card?
Anybody having trouble with International CC in IRCTC?
Hullo International IM'ers!
I have booked tickets on IRCTC since 2009 without problems, up until one month ago, but this last week I have been unable to. Anybody having the same problem?
Thanks!
Carlos

At this moment it is not possible to book tickets using IRCTC. Instead of that use http://www.cleartrip.com/

IRCTC for some strange reasons wants a valid Indian mobile number for enrolling with them.
Cleartrip accepts foreign bank issued credit and debit cards.

American Express
OK, so IRCTC will only accept Indian issued credit cards at the moment.
The word is that they will accept American Express cards issued overseas. Is this true? Does anyone know for sure what sort of Amex cards: Credit? Charge? or both?
Thanks.

After spending way too much time trying to book on irctc and makemytrip, I finally looked on IM and then tried cleartrip. It worked!
Now I'm thinking it might be worth it to open an Indian bank account and put a few thousand rupees on it, just in case.

Leith, I think the following page may help, the answer is yes but luckily I've never needed to do it: http://www.cleartrip.com/faq/account...ellation.shtml India blogs: monsoon meandering (2011) and big cats & holy ghats (2009)

I have twice canceled tickets with Cleartrip, following the procedure cited by OceanTragic. No problems; refund credited within a couple of days.
As dipyamanbasu notes, the amount of refund depends upon how close to departure the ticket is canceled.

That's good to know since it seems foreigners will no longer be able to book via IRCTC. I guess things may change in the future as the bookings are opening up to others soon aren't they? Similar Threads
