Can I book train tickets on IRCTC website using International credit card?
I have a mastercard and a visa issued by banks in United States. Can I use those on IRCTC to buy train tickets? Is there a foreign transaction fee that will be charged? What %?
Hi Dipsbabla,
I was trying, without success, to make payments of train tickets on IRCTC. If you made it with success, please, inform how to proceed. Even using beta version, it doesn't work!

Use one of the private booking agents such as cleartrip.com or yatra.com as there have been some posts over the last week or so that only Indian credit and debit cards are being accepted by IRCTC.

I have never had problems with Amex.

Make sure that you do not have popups blocked. If I remember correctly, CHASE VISA pops up a window to authenticate. https://www.securesuite.net/chase/re...on/welcome.jsp

There is more from post 16 and 17 and onwards of Can I book train tickets on IRCTC website using International credit card? which includes the link to https://www.irctc.co.in/payment.htmlwhich in turn indicates AMEX only for international transactions!
It was time to move the goalposts again.
Few of these frustrating, time wasting problems are encountered with the alternative booking agencies.
Hello again,
Thank you very much for helping, but it seems it's not possible to use, at least, some international VISA cards. In fact, I booked two years ago on IRCTC without problems, but at this time I can't do it, in spite of following your advices and other I have found in forums. I have checked, and haven't found any popups blocked. OK, IRCTC for Indian and AMEX cards?!
A few minutes ago, I made a booking using cleartrip.com and it was fine. Thanks a lot Vinceorian for advising.

Thanks nycank the correct post is http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...today-t114997/ and the posts are 16 and 17. I've been having similar problems. I think that now any card bookings need to have the enhanced security feature: ie: Mastercard secure code, or Visa verified by visa. You can add this feature online (if your bank participates) Go to the Mastercard or visa websites. Some banks do not participate in the Mastercard secure code, so I'm in the process of changing to a visa card. I'm pretty sure this is the source of my difficulties.

IMPORTANT: www.irctc.co.in NO LONGER ACCEPTS NON-INDIAN CREDIT CARDS, other than American Express. Whether this is a permanent change or a temporary problem I cannot say, but at the moment unless you have an Amex card you cannot use it. Please use www.cleartrip.com or www.makemytrip.com instead, as explained above. Although they charge a small fee (a tiny one by western standards) they are usually far easier to use than irctc.co.in in any case!

I have not yet booked my tickets yet, too early, but I did a mock booking on the ICRTC website and went to the Gateway choice page. There is a small "?" icon next to some of the gateways. When I clicked for Citi and Axis it clearly said that international cards were acceptable! I'm also sure that you need the VERIFIED BY VISA OR MASTERCARD SECURE CODE which was not required in the past.
Seat 61, also said they were not absolutely sure.

VERIFIED BY VISA OR MASTERCARD SECURE CODE has been mandatory in india for a few years now. I dont know whether its is applicable to non indian cards. I think it should be. Similar Threads
