Can I book at one station but board at a later station?

Hi,
Don't know if this technicality has been dealt with elsewhere( probably has, there's such a wealth of train knowledge here).
I'm looking at going from Bangalore to Trichy on Fri Dec 4th with the Mailaduturai Exp (6232) at 19:05. I'm looking at it on CLeartrip ,and it has 3/ac WL13. It originates in Mysore at 15:45 and has 3A/C 7avl from Mysore.
Is it possible to book and pay from Mysore but specify boarding at Bangalore? -Dunno if Cleartrip will allow me to do this, but is it possible with an E-ticket at all?
Happy Halloween!

Yes it is possible. While booking just mention your boarding point as Bangalore {there is space for it) . Even if you forget to do so you can inform authorities at Mysore at least 24hrs in advance for change in boarding station.

You can.

After booking the ticket, you must hand over a written request for change of boarding at any computerised reservation office 24 hours before the departure of the train from its originating station.

In this case, if you book from mysore, you must hand over the written request at any railway reservation office 24 hours before the departure of this train from mysore.

The following thread shows you how to change the boarding point whilst booking through IRCTC, I've no idea if cleartrip allows the same.

Help, train booking problem!

I've just gone to the IRCTC website and tried to book the train, paying from Mysore but boarding at Bangalore, and I was surprised to find I was given the Mysore availability numbers when I got to the 'Make payment' page.

In the past, when you changed your boarding point, you were given the availability numbers for your boarding stataion, this made sense and prevented people fidling the quotas, so I'm surprised it's changed, keep an eye on the availability number when booking, there's a very small chance this could just be a mistake on the website.

Thanks all,
It seemed to be possible ,just wasn't sure of the mechanics of it..and thanks steven_ber, for the link you listed and the heads up about a potential website mistake.
- such a wealth of knowledge, thanks for making it available!!

I wasn't able to book on IRCTC, boarding at Bangalore. Each time I specified the Bangalore boarding point, big red letters stated I would subjected to the quota available at the boarding station ,(WL17), as opposed to Mysore (7AVL) and it canceled the procedure and sent me back to start. Makes perfect sense though, not allowing end -runs around the quotas.
AS i won't have time to get to Mysore to catch the train, I wanted to re-confirm the above posts ( I wasn't able to find the "E-ticket amendment scheme" , 11/2008, from the linked page in the steven_ber post on this thread when trying a search for it on IRCTC website- it is still in effect?) that I will be able to go to the "E-counter" in Bangalore and change the boarding point in person 24hrs before the train departs Mysore.
Has anyone done this before without trouble?
This train comes at a bit of a crucial link-up in my travels North to South, perhaps I am trying to cut it too close . I can adjust my plans now to try and book something else, I just want to avoid a nasty surprise when I show up in Bangalore
thanks!!

here is a trick,

if you have reservation from a station, it will hold for next 2 stations (read stops). So, technically you book one or two stops before Bangalore, and you'll still get quota from Mysore or Ramanagaram or Mandya etc. without SBC quota. BUT, do not specify boarding point!!!!

You always can board in unreserved compartment and move to your reserved compartment within 2 stops of the train, without affecting your reservation.

Hope this helps, GOOD LUCK!

Book now, and book from Maddur station (code MAD), it's the station before Bangalore and is on the Mysore quota.

Maddur is 75kms from Bangalore, I'm sure you can change the boarding point at the reservation centre in Bangalore, but I've not done it myself, at least this way, even if you cant, you've a chance to get to Maddur (or 1 of you go to Maddur ) and make excuses why the rest have to board in Bangalore.

I have done this before.....though I had a genuine reason. It can be done.

BTW, on the mysore trains, many people from Bangalore do it often...you will not be alone. you are leveraging valid rules..nothing to be worried about.

Thanks for your replies,
they give me some assurance . I have booked the ticket from Maddur , and will attempt to leverage the rules (thnx ribhu95), with the "Maddur switcheroo"
It's interesting to find out stuff like Maddur falling under the Mysore quota... the tiny nuts and bolts of the massive undertaking that is IRCTC.
